Chapter 43

TW: Homophobic-ish comment

-Dream/Flashback-

"I'm honestly a bit jealous you have, like, a special friend. The thing is.. I'm genuinely scared I'll fall for my friend and make it awkward, because of my little situation.."

"So, do you like anyone, April?" Ariana's sister, Anne asked me.
"Well, I kinda like Nora, she's so confident, pretty and nice-" I said, going pink.
"Nora? Ew! She's so loud and messy. I could never. Like, why would a woman date another woman? It doesn't make sense to me and it's disgusting to even think of!" Kiara began.

"I'm trying to focus, do you mind?" I rolled my eyes. She raised her voice and Nora gave us a strange look. "She's staring. Kiara.. what have you done?"

The bell rang and class ended. I grabbed my stuff out of my locker and started heading to the dorm room until Kiara took my hand. I glared at her, not daring to say anything. She knew a lot about me, and wouldn't hesitate to tell the world what she knew.

"Hey, Nora! Do you have a moment? April has something to tell you." Kiara said. I recognised that tone in her voice, and it was not a good one. She suddenly pushed me where Nora was standing, apparently trying to get us to kiss. I thankfully managed to avoid that

"I do, actually. What's the matter?" I went silent, mouthing "Kiara did this, not my fault." to her.
"April likes you!" Kiara blurted out.
"Me?" She laughed. "Are you lesbian or something?"
"Bi-spectrum." I explained, before going red again.

-few days time skip-

"April and Nora, sitting in a tree.."
"Oh, don't remind me." I said. We were in the dorm room, just doing homework. Nora entered again.
"Yashi, have you seen-" she had heard Kiara.

"Look, I'm sorry about Kiara. She seems to find the idea of us together quite interesting." I whispered to her.
"It's alright, just tell her to not do it over and over again, it's quite annoying."

"Hey, guys!" Everyone had come in for our daily study group. "Did you know April likes Nora?"

"What?!" They all stared at me. Like I was some monster. I ran into the bathroom and locked the door behind me.
"April?"
I heard something fall on the ground before everything disappeared in a flash.

-End of Dream/Flashback-

I suddenly woke up, sweating. It was very late at night, but still not too far from early morning. I climbed out of bed to get some air, careful not to wake up Arnold. I somehow managed to forget the crutches and landed face-first on the floor. I groaned.

"What was that-?" He looked at me lying on the floor and held out his hand. "How'd you get there?"
"Bad dream." I said shortly, taking his hand.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" he asked. "You don't have to if you don't want to."
"Sure, I guess." Arnold took a water bottle and passed it to me. "You're too good to me."
"I'll always be good to you, April. Anyway.. where were you?" he said.
"Remember when we had our daily group study, and Kiara just told everyone-?" I asked him.

"Yeah, I do. That was a secret, though. She shouldn't have told everyone just like that."
"I know. I tried to stop her that time, but-" I suddenly broke down into sobs and hid my face in my palms. "All I wanted was to be normal and have a normal life.. but no, I can't even have that without any drama! Why?! What did I do to deserve this?!"

"I mean, it could be worse. At least Kiara didn't know Noah's aroace- actually, wait she knew that because he was out ages ago, Gwen's lesbian, you're pan, Kiara knew that, but she didn't know you're demi, so still on the ace spectrum, and that Ava was bi. She would've been able to single-handedly destroy the friend group with that sort of info." he pointed out.
