MK felt like in the past few months he'd been through enough to give him issues for life. He'd found out his dad was literally the Monkey King himself and his other dad was a guy that helped him train his powers with ulterior motives until changing for the better. He'd also been possessed by an evil demon, left alone and scared, and was almost killed by said demon giving him traumatic amnesia over the whole incident for a week.
Oh, and he'd also accidentally re-released said demon during said amnesia and was now dealing with Mei accidentally opening an evil scroll in the middle of this all that trapped his dad's and his two friends in ink leaving him once again alone until meeting his uncle who he managed to convince to help him.
So yeah, he had gone through a lot so it was no wonder that when MK found himself completely surrounded by darkness that he freaked out, stumbling backward even though the darkness was all around him.
Only when his foot hit the ground, colour burst to life under it, the world appearing from the point like in a video game and MK looked at the area around him in awe.
He was in a village but it looked nothing like any village he'd seen, with green roofs, white walls, and wooden beams everything looked old-fashioned and weird. Surrounded by a mountain range the whole place was honestly very pretty and MK looked around curiously at the strange clothes everyone was wearing, small bits of glee building inside him as he realized he was standing in a different time, watching history be played out in front of him.
"Woah." He couldn't help his awed gasp, wandering over to the nearest stall that seemed to be selling things and staring down at the objects in glee, wondering if he'd be able to take anything back with him.
"No! Focus MK, you're here to find your family." He reminded himself with a slap to his cheek, looking around to try and find something that might give him a clue on what to do next.
His ears flicked as he heard someone behind him gasp, the owner of the stall looking up at the sound and seeing MK, his own eyes widening in horror.
"A demon!" He cried out with obvious distress and MK's eyebrows furrowed as he looked around him in confusion, wondering why he sounded so terrified.
The woman that had gasped at seeing him was now screaming, her voice shrill as she ran away quickly, yelling about demons as people started looking at the commotion, MK wincing and looking down at his hands.
Right. With his tail and fluffiness and extra ears MK didn't exactly look human, did he, and in these times demons and humans didn't live together.
"Stop right there, demon scum!" Two guards appeared and sweat gathered on MK's brow as he gulped and looked up at them, eyes lingering on their weapons that they were pointing at him threateningly.
"Uh, sorry, gotta go!" He rushed out before quickly darting away, racing at top speeds away from the onlookers and guards as he was chased, losing the pursuers in an empty ally where he stood panting for a second and trying not to freak out.
So far, MK was doing a terrible job of searching for his family.
A footstep behind him made him squeal, looking back in time to see Azure Lion, looking slightly see-through and obviously not actually there.
"You made it through safely, great! Welcome to seventh-century Chong An. I trust you've experienced astral projection before?" He asked, arms crossed and looking fairly thrilled that MK was in one piece. MK had plenty of experience with astral projection so he nodded.
"Oh yeah, plenty of times!" Best not to mention the nosebleeds he got trying to do it though.
"Alright, now listen MK we don't have much time. Remember how I told you the scroll has a protective curse?" MK nodded repetitively.
