MK hadn't been in here since before everything that had happened. The last time he'd been at the anti-gravity arcade with Mei had been before he'd met Macaque he was pretty sure. Which felt like a lifetime ago.
Instantly the loud music had his ears all flinching, his head ducking at the sudden loud noise as his chest went tight and rigid. Then, a warm hand held his, fingers warm and careful as they gave his hand a squeeze and MK looked to the side to find Red smiling at him reassuringly, the action sending butterflies fluttering in his stomach.
He smiled back, squeezing his boyfriend's hand in return and taking in a deep breath as he tried to get used to the influx of noise.
"You okay?" Red asked, considerate and perceptive and MK nodded with a low hum.
"I'm okay, just- it's louder than I expected." He explained, flicking his free hand up to gesture to his ears, and Red Son nodded knowingly.
"Yeah, it is."
"What are you two waiting for? C'mon, let's go, go, go!" Mei yelled, impatient as she tugged MK's free hand to get them further into the room and MK let her, getting a little more used to the noise as they stepped onto the dancefloor, games lined up around the room.
Mei did a small jump, and her feet left the floor, her eyes delighted and happy as gravity failed to take her back down and MK giggled at the sight of her floating towards the ceiling, which was designed to look like the floor, dance pads glowing.
MK had forgotten what it felt like to be in low gravity like this, and turned back to Red, excited to see his reaction as the boy watched Mei get higher and higher. He could see him eyeing the people also floating about in the air, and MK grinned.
"Ready?" He asked then tightened his hand around the boy's and pushed off the floor, pulling Red up with him as his feet left the ground.
Red's eyes widened, his hands clutching onto MK's instantly as his legs wiggled like he was swimming, trying to stay upright while Mei watched them, upside down and laughing as Red yelped. MK remembered his first time in here too, getting used to the weird feeling of floating through the air.
His hands were holding MK's tightly, so he didn't let go, only grinning when Red's hands clutched at his arms, eyes flicking down to the floor that was getting further and further away.
MK smiled, basking in the cool feeling of being weightless as Mei pushed off the ceiling, barreling toward them both and knocking into them with a playful laugh. Red yelped, a surprised noise leaving him as they were suddenly moving to the side, tipping upside down so that Red was above him and MK laughed at the startled shriek he'd made, eyes crinkling with happiness at the sight of the other boy's hair floating like waves.
MK's own hair was probably doing the same, his bandanna probably not even needed to keep his bangs out of his eyes as he laughed at the panicked look on Red's face.
"Cool, right?" MK asked, tone playful as Red nodded eyes looking around for Mei and this time when she came toward them MK let go of one of his boyfriend's hands to grab her, sending them all off course and toward the middle of the room and she giggled.
"I've missed this!" She yelled over the music, cheerful and MK grinned, his own smile wide enough to hurt as he held Red's hand tighter.
"Me too." He felt so happy, so cheerful like everything was fine and he wished he could stay in this moment forever, with no worries and nothing dragging him down. Here, MK's chest felt just as light as the air around them was.
"I have to admit, this is an... interesting feeling," Red commented and it was pretty much approval coming from him so MK nodded frantically.
"Glad you like it!" He chirped, then pulled them both over toward one of the machines, letting go of Mei to grab the corner of it with his now free hand.
