Wukong was familiar with this feeling. The feeling of worry so strong it felt like a punch to the gut. The feeling of anxiously waiting in a hospital as his kid was looked over, bleeding red and limp.

At least this time his heartbeat was steady and there, but it was a small mercy compared to how much he'd been crying and screaming and whimpering in Wukong's arms. Now, MK was on a hospital bed and Wukong had his cub's hand in his own paw, sitting in a chair next to his unconscious form and forcing himself not to bury his hands in his face and cry.

That part was only because Mei and Red Son were here too, having tagged along after their friend. Wukong had no idea where Macaque was, but he hoped he was okay.

He glanced back up at the resting face of his child, the majority of the left side all wrapped up in bandages, and he quivered at the sight, remembering the moment MK had fallen unconscious and his hands had dropped from where they'd been clutching his face, revealing a mess of blood and a cut that spanned right across his eye, a slit through his eyebrow and going down to his cheek horrifically.

It was bigger than Macaques.

He shook the thought away, taking in a deep breath and rubbing his thumb over the back of MK's hand soothingly, ignoring Mei and Red Son who were both silently watching on the other side of the bed, Mei's hand holding MK's other hand.

"Is MK okay?" The sudden question and the door slamming open made Wukong spin his head around, softening at the sight of his lover, who was wide-eyed, panicked, and looked awful. His hair was messy and behind him was Nezha, who looked uncomfortable and horrified at the same time.

"Wukong, is MK-" Macaque stalked forward then stopped when he saw their baby on the bed, his whole body going rigid at the sight of the bandages covering his face.

"It didn't... his eye- did it...?" He didn't finish the question and didn't get any closer, frozen halfway to the doorway, but Wukong knew what he was asking. It was easy with Macaque's own scar and milky eye visible.

"The doctor said we won't know how much damage was done until he wakes up but considering how deep it was... there's a good chance he won't be able to see out of that eye anymore." Wukong managed to tell him, hating the way his lover's whole face paled at his words and he drew back like he'd been hit, his tail dropping behind him. He looked like he was going to be sick.

"Macaque-" Without another word and before Wukong could finish Macaque was already leaving the room, turning around and practically bolting without a word and Wukong's free hand reached out after him, heart aching painfully in his chest as he fought the urge to go after him.

He wanted to, gods he wanted to, but MK's hand was pliant and small in his and he couldn't bare to leave him.

Waking up felt weird. His head felt sluggish and slow and confusion twirled in his mind when something tightened around his hand at his sluggish groan, a voice making him pull through the foggy haze of deep sleep.

"-You okay? Can you hear me, sweetheart?" He heard and he slowly dragged his eyes open, confused when he found himself seeing a lot less than he should be, everything still fuzzy as he caught two faces in the right side of his vision.

One looked green and the other red and MK realized slowly that this was Mei and Red Son, blinking at the sight of them both and then turning his head to look for Baba, panicked.

"What-" He wasn't sure what he'd been about to ask but his throat hurt a little when he spoke and he hissed at a dull pain on his face when he moved his head but didn't stop until he was able to see his baba.
