They got to watch the sunset as they sat at the base of the tree. It took a bit, but soon the sky was splattered in bright shades of orange and reds and yellows, a pretty sight so long as MK was actually looking up at it and not the monkey sitting in his lap he was grooming slowly.

With the colourful but dimmer sky came the cool air from the ocean breeze, diminished by the trees in the way but if MK wasn't covered in fur he might have been cold right now with his summer dress on.

As it was all the slight breeze did was ruffle his hair and he pouted as it got in his face for the tenth time, missing his headband. Before he could reach a hand up to shove it to the side Wukong's arm moved and ruffled it for him, making it messier as MK rolled his eyes and reached up to fix it.

"I thought you were supposed to be grooming me, not making my hair look worse." He giggled, brushing his hair to the side and ducking under Wukong's hand as he tried to mess it up again.

The monkey in his lap made a noise at all the moving, clambering off his lap and onto his head and MK snorted as the little guy ended their squabbling.

"Comfy up there?" He asked the fella teasingly and felt little claws and hands hold onto his hair, a tail curling around his forehead as the creature made a loud chittering noise.

"I'll take that as a yes." He tried to look up to see the animal but couldn't so he closed his eyes, listening to the sound of the chittering in the trees nearby as a family of monkeys talked and it made him relax, a smile blooming on his face.

"I'm glad the mountain's doing better." He said and Wukong nodded, hands steady as he picked through MK's fur.

"Yep. Most of the ice is gone. Just a little left higher up near the clearing. Most of the trees there are destroyed, but some of the grass is growing back which is good." He explained and MK nodded, picking at the dirt on his tail. He knew which clearing Wukong was talking out, avoiding saying the obvious. It was the clearing they'd fought LBD at. Where MK had...died.

"That's good. You and Dad can probably move back in soon then. I bet you'll be glad to be back on the mountain away from all that noise in the city." He mentioned conversationally but Wukong's fingers stiffened and stilled in his fur at the comment.

"Yeah. Guess we can." His tone was a little strangled, and a touch flat and MK furrowed his eyebrows, wanting to look back but not wanting to move the monkey on his head.

"Do you not want to?" He asked, confused and Baba shook his head, his fingers running through MK's fur again.

"No, that's not it, kiddo. Of course I want to. It'll be nice to have somewhere to sleep again." He laughed, tone jovial and MK hummed instead of nodding, mind trying to figure out what the problem was.

He couldn't come up with anything, and the silence between them became a longer comfortable silence, Wukong relaxing as he went back to his grooming and MK's thought straying to his seated position.

His legs were going a little fuzzy and numb from being in the same place for a while so he moved them, mindful of the animal on his head as he pushed his legs out of their crisscross position and winced at the feeling of blood flowing back to them.

"Are you done yet?" He asked Baba, only slightly impatient as Wukong sighed and wrapped his arms around MK's shoulders, pulling him closer.

"What? Are you not having a good time with your old man?" He asked, a pout in his whining tone and MK rolled his eyes even though he couldn't see the action, tilting his head so he could actually see Wukong.

Unfortunately with all the hair dangling down the side of his face he couldn't see anything anyway and all the movement did was irritate the monkey on his head who jumped off and climbed up the tree to sit above them.
