Wukong had another surprise after they'd finished drawing. The key word was surprise, so he dragged Macaque further into the city, grinning when he thought about the surprised look on his face when they got there.

He couldn't keep the grin off his face, ignoring the little remark Macaque made about why he looked so goofy as he dragged his partner to a place Wukong never bothered going. But he'd heard about it enough and knew Macaque would love it.

Sure enough the other noticed where they were headed when they got close, staring up at the building with a surprised look.

"You took me... to the theatre?" He asked, voice soft and Wukong nodded furiously, grabbing Macaque's hands as his tail swung back and forth.

"Yeah! I know you love theatre and stuff so I thought you'd enjoy it." He said, pleased with himself until he saw that Macaque was still staring at the building with wide eyes, not quite as excited as Wukong had thought he'd be. His heart sunk and his tail dropped.

"Do you not want to? We can go somewhere else if-"

"No." Macaque swiftly interrupted him, looking down from the building and instead settling his gaze on Wukong as he squeezed his hands reassuringly.

"I do. It's just- I don't know. I didn't think you'd remember that, let alone want to go with me. You hate this kind of thing. I know fast-paced action movies are more your style." He laughed, trying to shrug off his surprise and Wukong smiled, bringing one of Macaque's hands up and kissing it gently, maintaining eye contact just to see the flush spread across the other's face and ears.

"They are, but that doesn't mean I don't mind doing something you like too. I'm the one taking you on a date after all, it's supposed to be full of things you enjoy!" He said loudly and was surprised when Macaque brought his hand up to cup his cheek, now grinning widely.

"Well, you're doing a pretty good job so far, Peaches." He said, tone low and sending delighted shivers down Wukong's spine and then Macaque pulled back, still smug.

"Come on then, let's go in before what's on starts."

Wukong didn't know much about theatre so he'd just looked online for the next show, something he'd never heard, but Macaque obviously recognised, as they went inside with their tickets. Wukong didn't tell Macaque that he'd stolen them from someone else on their way in, totally forgetting that you were supposed to buy them in advance for things like this.

He would have felt bad but Macaque looked so content and happy to be here, sitting down and twisting their tales together that he thought it was worth it.

Macaque's gaze didn't stray from the stage as the play started and Wukong tried to pay attention and follow along but found it a lot more enjoyable just to watch Macaque instead, taking in every little expression and thrill at the play in front of them. He thought it was more interesting than whatever was happening on stage anyway, happy to stare at his lover instead.

Only Macaque went to say something to him and noticed his staring, flush spreading to the tips of his ears as he shoved his head to the side with an embarrassed noise.

"Are you even paying attention?" He huffed but didn't sound that upset and Wukong laughed quietly, leaning closer.

"Sorry, sorry! It's just hard to focus  when there's something much more interesting right next to me." He said teasingly and Macaque's blush spread at the words, rolling his eyes dramatically.

"You're an idiot." He huffed, but there was no bite to it and it only made Wukong laugh again, hearing someone shush him from behind and immediately duck down in embarrassment. Macaque snickered at him for it, and he pouted back, sticking his tongue out.
