Akko paced around her dorm nervously. She had a particular person in mind to take to the Blue Moon Ball, but she didn't know how to ask. She tried to write down ideas, but to no avail. In a state of dissatisfaction, she slammed her head on the desk.
"Ow. That hurt a little more than expected," Akko commented.
"Are you still hung up about the blue moon ball?", Lotte asked as she flipped another page in her book.
"YES! I just don't know how to tell her!", mumbled Akko. "Sucy, why don't you give me a love potion or something?".
"No, that sounds like a personal problem. Besides, love potions aren't really my thing," Sucy commented as she was examining the liquid in the flask.
"Come on! There's gotta be something you CAN do," pleaded Akko in desperation.
"Akko, it's not that hard. You don't even need magic. Just be yourself. The worst thing that'll happen is that she says no," Lotte comforted.
Akko sighed in disbelief. She was at her wit's end at this point, but she knew Lotte and Sucy were right. Akko had to toughen up and gain the confidence to ask Diana, but that was easier said than done.
"I'm gonna go out for fresh air," she announced as she walked out the room.
It was a warm spring day. Birds flew across the sky. Akko had chose a nice, secluded, area in a garden. The air was silent, except for the gentle wind's breeze. She relaxed onto the bench. Akko sighed as she looked up at they clear blue sky. However, her attention was steps behind her. It was Diana. With a book in her hand, Diana stood next to Akko.
"Is this seat taken?", Diana inquired.
"Uh-uhm. No...," Akko fumbled her words as she looked away, flustered.
Diana took a seat next to Akko and opened her book. Akko leaned closer to get a glimpse of her notes until Diana interjected.
"You know there's a history test. It would be in your best interest to start studying this week," advised Diana as she read through her notes.
"A test? When?!", panicked Akko.
"This Friday. You should really start paying attention in class more," Diana remarked.
Akko was agitated at Diana's scornful remarks, but she knew she was right. Akko had to study for the upcoming test or else she'll fail the class and will be unable to attend the Blue Moon Ball.
"Where do I even start with studying?", Akko covered her face in frustration.
"Well, just start with bits and pieces of it. Begin studying in sections until you finish the whole thing. Studying in a large whole will have the minute details forgotten," Diana flipped to the first section of the unit. "Do you need help studying?", she asked.
Akko reluctantly nodded her head. Diana reviewed the material for the test. It was a large amount of reading. Akko frequently got distracted. She looked at Diana. The early sunset accentuated Diana's glistening blue eyes and pale skin. Akko's attention was locked on Diana. She wasn't paying attention to the study session at all. All Akko could focus on was the butterflies in her stomach. Diana sensed Akko's hard gaze.
"Are you even listening?", Diana playfully slapped the back of Akko's head scornfully.
"Owww!!! I mean... I was kind of listening," Akko was not listening.
"Well, when was the witch's epidemic?", inquired Diana.
"Uh... 1776," Akko hesitated.
Diana sighed with frustration. "In 1834, an epidemic occurred after people fled away during the war. People were unable to find a power source. Thus, there was a lack of magic, which left the refugees unable to have proper medicine or treatments," Diana quoted from memory.
"Uh-huh," Akko nodded her head, pretending to understand.
"This is serious, Akko. You need to study," Diana scolded. "Here, take this," she held out her notes.
"Wait, don't you need this?", questioned Akko, in disbelief.
"Well, you probably need it more than I do," Diana scoffed. "Please, make use of the notes and study".
Akko stared at the journal, flipping through the pages. Diana's handwriting was elegant and organized, unlike Akko's whose notes are scattered (if any were written at all). Akko and Diana went their separate ways back to the dorm rooms. When Akko arrived to her room, she was greeted with Sucy's laughter.
"Hey, what are you laughing about?," Akko demanded.
"You were out there with her for over an hour and you didn't make your move?", teased Sucy.
Sucy was right. Akko realized that she could've said something about the dance, but didn't.
"Well, we were studying for history," Akko said defensively.
"You? Studying?", Sucy began laughing more. Akko's face became red with a mix of frustration and embarrassment.
"It's a good thing you're studying. I heard that upcoming history test was pretty hard," added Lotte.
"Yeah! So, that's why I'm going to study super hard so I can pass the exam!", Akko exclaimed.
That night, Akko spent her time studying the notes. It was pretty difficult, but she took Diana's advice by taking sections of the part and memorizing. Akko also began writing notes of her own. She was relentlessly determined to pass the upcoming test, until she fell asleep reading...
