Andrew's Call to Diana

Diana heard her phone pick up. It was Andrew. She didn't necessarily know what he was going to say unless he was going to bring her news about the upcoming volunteer work.

"Yes, Andrew? Is something wrong?", Diana answered the phone.

"No, nothing's wrong. I just wanted to see how it went," he said.

"What do you mean it? The only reason I have this is to communicate strictly about the volunteer projects and important agendas," she firmly responded.

"I can't ask about it?", he chuckled.

Diana knew exactly what he was talking about, but the thought of Akko made her completely lose her words. Diana knew it was such a cliché to say she adored everything about Akko, but she did. She had such admiration for her determination and kindness. Of course, she thought Akko was really cute! Cupid was really a sharpshooter on Diana Cavendish.

"Andrew, you know I don't really go into that stuff," Diana awkwardly muttered out.

"Did you getting that game?", Andrew asked.

"Yes," she replied plainly.

"Oh, wow," Andrew started chuckling in between his sentences. "Akko was literally so upset when she saw that game got sold. It was like seeing a sad little puppy!"

Diana didn't want to imagine Akko as a sad expression. It would leave a stinging feeling in her gut that she couldn't deny. Secretly, Diana just wanted to say everything, but that would be out of character for her.

"Yes, but I guess it's fine now since we played it together," Diana blushed at the memory of that fateful night. To Akko, it was probably a just a typical friend's hang out. To Diana, the joy in her heart could only be analogous to a child opening a beloved present; Akko being that gift of course.

"That's a pretty good way to ask her. Did you make one of those signs that say "Be my player 2?" or some sort- a prom-posal?", Andrew asked.

"A what?", Diana asked.

"Well, I guess it wouldn't be called a prom-posal. Prom is an American thing that's like a dance. I guess in this case it's like a ball-posal," he added.

"I still have no idea what you're going on about," Diana remained confused on the concept.

"I'm asking if you asked Akko to the ball as your date," Andrew sighed jokingly.

"Well, that is a different matter...", she didn't want to admit that she procrastinated.

"You didn't ask her? After all that? After convincing her to do that volunteer thing that day? You didn't asked her to the dance?", Andrew began questioning. "What the actual fuck Diana?", he joked.

"Andrew!", Diana was shocked that he used profanity. "No, I haven't yet. Yet is the key word. I'll do it when the time is right," she defended.

"Diana, that was the perfect time! You would've had a cute night to remember together and played video games all night!", he exclaimed.

"I didn't know if she'd say yes. It would be awkward if she said no. I don't even know how I'd react if she said no...", Diana looked away.

Diana could face any challenge. A monster? A beast? A super hard magical exam? She could ace that any day, but confronting her emotional feelings was another territory that she avoided at all cost. If Akko turned her down, that would probably be her breaking point into cracking.

"It's not the end of the world if she doesn't...", Andrew didn't want to give away Akko's secret, which really wasn't a secret (everyone knew except Diana).

"This is the first person that I've ever truly had such a connection with. I couldn't imagine if my feelings weren't reciprocated," Diana retorted at Andrew's reply.

There was an awkward silence on the phone.

"Andrew?", Diana called out.

He muted his mic as he bursted out laughing. "How could Diana Cavendish, top student, be so oblivious?". Andrew never imagined that someone so diligent and organized would be so blind to the most obvious crush in history. He let out a final sigh before unmuting himself.

"Diana, she won't. I know she won't," Andrew became more serious.

"How do you know? I think she likes me as a friend," Diana said.

"I don't know. In my humble opinion, I think she is so in love with you right now," Andrew replied.

"Andrew, do you know something that I don't?", Diana to get an answer. "Does she like me?".

"I'm not breaking bro code," he remained insistent that he wasn't going to expose Akko. Somehow, he got looped into being a wingman. "... but do you ever see her eyes when she's around you? I thought you had her on a spell or something- maybe you used that cupid bee. She gets all nervous and locks her gaze on you."

"No way! She's like that all the time with everyone. I hate that so much," she lied. She really loved Akko's energetic persona. It felt worse than the cupid's bee, because these emotions were actually real.

"Well, I don't see Akko interact with many others, but she definitely seems... different around your presence," he said.

Diana reflected on his words. She didn't know if Akko actually changed or not.

"That's all I have to say. I can't believe you're so blind, Diana," Andrew said.

"Thanks, Andrew. I'll keep your words in mind," she said.

The call ended, but Diana couldn't help but replay the conversation over and over again. Her biggest fear was just asking someone as her date. How would that even be possible? She is Diana Cavendish, the future head of Cavendish family. Having a typical high school crush was unchartered territory for her. She pulled out a memento from her desk drawer. They were photo films. That was when Diana realized she cared so much for Akko. Diana viewed their bond as the closest she's ever had. There was a new sense of admiration of Akko's will power and compassion for greater good of humanity. In the photo, Akko wrapped her arms around Diana. Diana was laughing in the picture with genuine happiness. Akko was the only person who could make her laugh in such a way. Akko was the only person for a lot of things to Diana. "If only I find the words to say it," Diana thought to herself. Another photo had the two holding hands in the grassy picnic field. Diana's eyes were fixed on Akko's laugh. Akko, unknowing to Diana's true feelings. Diana laughed with a sense of fondness at the memories. She decided to hang the pictures up on her desk. It would be a reminder of her time.

"Hopefully, Andrew's right...", she said to herself.
