"Pass me your plate."
Jungkook was reaching his hand out for Jimin's plate. They had just finished dinner, a delicious bowl of bibimbap that Jungkook had quickly thrown together once they had gotten back from the hospital, another full day of tests and exams for Jimin.
It had been a week since Jimin had decided to get the transplant and once he'd called up the clinic and let Dr Choi know his decision the ball had started rolling. Jimin had figured there would be some preparation for the surgery, but he hadn't expected to have to go to the hospital three days in a row, schedule fully packed with everything from bloodwork to radiological exams and pulmonary function tests, he'd even had to see a dentist which seemed a little overboard to Jimin.
He and Jungkook had met with the transplant team which consisted of a group of doctors, surgeons, nurses, and a transplant coordinator. The process had been explained to them, the preparations, the waiting, the surgery. It was quite detailed, even unsettlingly so at times, but Jimin was happy that they hadn't sugar-coated things, he wanted to know what would and could happen, he needed to know.
Jimin handed Jungkook his plate as he stared down at his phone, looking at the number the transplant team had given him, the number which they would call from the day they had found him new lungs.
"What should I set... the ringtone as?" Jimin asked
Jungkook as he took their plates to the sink to wash them.

Jungkook grabbed the dish soap and poured some out onto the plates. "It should be something easily recognisable, right? So that you know for sure it's them calling."
Jimin hummed. "Would it be too... morbid if I... set it as
'Stayin' alive... by the 'Bee Gees'?"
Jungkook chuckled and shook his head as he turned on the faucet. "Maybe, but it's also kind of funny:
Jimin let out a small laugh and selected the song as the ringtone. At least he shouldn't miss it.
The blonde boy locked his phone and put it on the kitchen table, watching his boyfriend clean the remnants of their dinner off the plates. "Jungkook, I've been... thinking about something.
"What?" Jungkook said and turned off the running water.
"I want to go... somewhere with you... and the rest of... the guys." Jimin rested his chin in his hand. "I want to... spend time with... everyone, before I... might not be able... to."
Jungkook put the clean plates on the dishrack and wiped his hands on the kitchen towel hanging off a knob on one of the cabinets. He turned around and faced Jimin, a slight frown on his face. "What do you mean you might not be able to? You haven't changed your mind about getting the transplant, have you?"
Jimin hurried to shake his head. "No, of course... not. It's just-" He paused and watched as Jungkook walked over to him, sitting down in the chair next to him. "We don't know... how long I'll have... to wait for the... transplant and I... don't think I'll get... to spend months and months... feeling as okay as... I do right now, and... if I do get it-"
"When you get it." Jungkook interjected and took Jimin's hand in his.
Jimin gave Jungkook a soft smile. "Okay, when I get... it, it's going to... be a long road back... to where I'll be... able to do something... like that again." Jimin squeezed Jungkook's hand and looked into his beautiful brown eyes.
"I just want... some happy memories... to look back on.
Jungkook brushed a few strands of Jimin's hair from his face, his fingers brushing the blonde boy's cheek in the process. He smiled and gave Jimin a soft kiss. "Of course, let's talk to the others and plan something."
Jimin smiled into the next kiss. He'd been thinking about this for a while. However much Jungkook wanted him to stay positive about the transplant, keeping him focused on the 'when' not the 'if', there was still the thought in the back of his head that even though he'd made this decision it was still out of his hands. He knew he was going to get worse, he was going to contract another infection, it was just a matter of time. He was going to spend more days, weeks, in the hospital, he knew that. People could wait years for a transplant, years they didn't have. Some never got the opportunity, time running out before the call came to them. Jimin hadn't given up, he still hoped his day would come, but in case it didn't he wanted to make sure he spent the time he had left wisely, creating memories with the people he loved. Not just for him, but for his friends too, for Jungkook.
"No hiking... this time." Jimin said once he'd pulled back from Jungkook's soft lips.
Jungkook let out a chuckle and left another peck on Jimin's lips. "Noted."
Jimin stifled a yawn and blinked a couple of times.
"Do you want to go to bed?" Jungkook asked, his thumb brushing over Jimin's.
Jimin shook his head and smiled at his boyfriend. "No, I'll stay... up for a bit longer... Maybe we could watch... a movie?"
"Sure," Jungkook stood up and left a kiss on the crown of Jimin's head. "Go see if you can find something, I just have to go take out the recycling first."
