Chapter Twenty: The Quiet Before the Storm

It has been two months since the babies were born. They were growing quickly and were now sleeping through the night. We have made a lot of modifications to the castle for the safety of our people and our children. Pyrite was with Sapphire, giving the children a bath, while I was in the office doing paperwork. Dravo and Meadra went home to her Coven, Maxia went with her brother, King Magis, and his mate, Issanna Lightfoot. Vandal had a fit when she told him that she was leaving our kingdom to go back to hers.

Vandal came back to go over strategies and would ask us about Maxia, then he would leave back to his home. With him always asking about Max, Sapphire decided to just tell her on the next video call. I guess they thought it was funny because we heard laughter in the room and then we'd hear the babies giggling. Magis stopped by twice, once with Issanna and the next without her. She was getting ready to be coordinated as Queen in the wolf kingdom, so she was pretty busy.

Today, Pyrite and I had a surprise for Sapphire. Her parents and siblings were coming to see us. Her dads couldn't come because her brother ended up shifting the morning they were to come down, so her mom and sister left to help. Emerald was bummed that she wasn't able to find her mate and needed sister time, so she plans to stay here for a few weeks.

'Knock, knock.'

"Come in."

"Onyx, you really need to just let me barg in whenever I want. I'm here every weekend," Vandal says as he walks into my office. Another vampire slowly follows him in.

"Was hoping you weren't coming this weekend. Sapphire's family will be here soon and I want a drama-free weekend with our family," I replied as I looked at the other vampire. He was roughly six and a half feet tall, with long black hair in a low ponytail, green eyes, and pale skin. He looked like he lifted weights a lot too. He was fit, but that just meant he took care of his body.

"You know how I love to annoy you, Sapphire mainly because she won't tell me what my mates location is, but you and Pyrite too," he said nonchalantly looking back at the door to his tag-along. "Oh, where are my manners. Onyx, this Obsidian Valdar. He is my right hand man. Like the wolf's Beta, I guess."

Vandal waved Obsidian in as he plopped onto Sapphire's chair, Obsidian just nodded and stayed in his location.

"King Onyx," he said with a slight bow and then moved quickly to stand in front of the wall as the door burst open with Sapphire holding a cranky Kyanite.

"Love, what's wrong?" I asked as I stood up.

"Your son is wanting daddy time and you bailed on bath time so here you go," she said as she handed Kyanite to me. "Get your damn corpse out of my chair Vandal or I will rip your fangs out with fish hooks!"

"See! She loves me!" Vandal smirked to Obsidian as he went so far to lean back and put his feet onto the desk. Sapphire's eyes widened. She then proceeded to walk towards him with a similar smirk as him. As soon as she was close to him, she lifted his feet into the air and kicked the chair out from underneath him.

'CRASH!'

I busted out laughing as Vandal landed on his ass, legs up in the air and started to cuss Sapphire out.
