I opened up a single eye, squinting at the harsh light. I reach over and click on my phone, which I forgot to plug in before I fell asleep, and nothing happens. Fuck. It died. I sit up, rubbing the back of my neck. I shuffled into the kitchen and looked over to the stove, the green lights said 9:37. I dragged myself up the stairs, rubbing my eyes in attempt to rub away my tiredness. I found Brittany, curled into a ball under the comforter, the pillow next to her had streaked , running mascara on her pillowcase. I was sad, but only for a moment, then I walked into the bathroom, and sighed in frustration as I realized she had stripped my bathroom clean, and all the new decor was in the garage. I huff and drag myself back down stairs.
I grab the box that says "Bathroom" and lug it up right backup stairs, silently cursing myself for not building and elevator in this damn house. I open the box at the entrance of our room, and pull out the lime green shower curtain. I peer inside the box, and realize how much stuff is in there. I'll empty out that later. After my shower. I stumble into the bathroom, and hang up the shower curtain. I turn the nozzle on, and get un-dressed. I pulled off my shirt and let it fall to the ground. My pants slid off my thighs to my ankles, and I stepped out of them. I un clasped my bra with little to no difficulty, and my lace panties came off just as easily.
As I stand in the shower, watching the scolding hot water run down my body, I think. I was just having doubts about Brittany because it's a new relationship, and we were moving awfully fast. I'm just a little nervous because of him, hopefully Brittany won't hurt me like he did. I get out my soap, and scrub my body. I shave my legs, and under my arms. I shave "down there" and make sure I didn't accidentally nick my self.
I wash my hair, and stand there, under the water, as it rinses my hair of the shampoo. I turn the nozzle off, and climb out. I grab a towel, go stand in our room to look at my clothes. I put on a pair of yoga pants, and a T-shirt that says "Run! Run Forest! Run!" and it has a tree running, it was a shirt Lila got for me for my 18th birthday.
I put my hair up into the towel, and grab the box. I empty out it's contents and place them in the bathroom in a decorative manner. I leave the bathroom, I fold the box up, and toss it to the floor.I wander into the other spare room. I look around and decide that I'm going to re-arrange it and spruce it up. It's a very pretty color in this room. It's a rich, dark red with brownish tanish shag carpet. I pull the desk to the far corner, and push the chair up to it. I look at all the books and magazines, and I sigh. I look at the shelf I have stored in here, and I get up. I put the books willy nilly throughout the shelves, in that kind of organized messy sort of way.
I lay down the rug, which was brown and red wool, and I put the lamp in the corner. I look around. Where's my desktop? And my printer? Oh hey. There they are. I put them up on the desk, and plug them in. I set up the computer and make sure the printer works with it.
There's a large photo of a meadow, so I hang it up next to the shelf, which took up the majority of that wall, Then I hang my over sized-cork board above my desk, and the calendar next to it. I used a couple push pins and rummage through the drawers until I find my pictures. I put up a picture of Lila and I at her 5th birthday party at the water park. Then I pin the concert tickets to Rock Fest from 2 years ago with Lila. I found a picture of me and my mom, and I pinned it up, it was her and I at the park when I was about 8 or 9. I get up, wiping tears from my cheeks, and walk out of the room. I head downstairs, and make myself some breakfast.
As I pull the eggs out of the carton, and find my large skillet, I begin to wonder what I'm doing with my life. I have a girl friend, and a large house, but, all my money was from inheritance, it was about time I actually got a job. Maybe something easy, like busing tables at a diner or maybe some retail. But Brittany will want something more fun, more exciting. Knowing her, if she actually agree to get a job, it'll be something that brings her joy and is very easy, something that puts all the attention on her.
I mutter a few words when my hand touched the side of the hot skillet. I snatched my hand away, and rummage through my cabinets for my plates and cups. I set the table, and laid out a pretty table cloth. I opened the blinds, and cracked the window. I watched a squirrel eat a nut outside of the back door, until I heard the sizzling and popping of the grease in the pan, telling me the egg was ready to be taken out.
I wonder what my life will come to if she's my forever.
