"What? What are you doing here?" I ask.

"I came by to see my princess." He responds. "Is that a bad thing?"

"It is when I haven't seen you in 20 years." I snapped back.

"Has it really been that long?" He asked, with a thoughtful look on his face.

"You left when I was 5. I'm 25 now." I said, crossing my arms. His face scrunches in confusion.

"Oh? You don't remember your 'princesses' birthday?" I snarled.

"Well won't you let me come in? It's rude to make your dad stand outside in the cold." He says, scoffing.

"You're not my dad, Jerry. You're the man who impregnated my mother. That's all you are to me, and that's all you ever will be." I said, standing my ground.

"And who might you be?" He asks, ignoring my response, looking at Lila.

"That's Lila." I said.

"Lila who?" He asks, scratching his head. "Ah yes, you're the little red head who ran around with Jazzy when yall were youngsters."

"Yeah, but I'm more than that now." Lila snaps back.

"What's that supposed to mean?" He asks, confused. I hear Lila walk closer to me, and I feel her arms wrap around my stomach. I instantly relax in the arms of my fiancé. Lila puts a finger on my chin, and tilts my head upwards so I can look into her eyes. She leans forward, and kisses me passionately. After a few seconds, she pulls away, and looks Jerry right in the eyes.

"She's my fiancé." She says, her voice dead cold.

"You're what? Jasmine you're not gay."

"No, I'm not. I'm lesbian and I would appreciate it if you got your good for nothing, lying, cheating, judgemental nasty self off my front door step." I said, stepping forward to shut the door, but Jerry sticks his foot right between the crack before I can shut it. I look into his dark brown, almost black eyes, and he tries to stare me down, like he did when I was little. He lifts his lip into a snarl, the same snarl he would give me to make me leave him alone, and he opened his mouth.

"This isn't the last of me." He growled, before walking down my steps, into a beat up, tan van, and he drove off.

"Are you okay?" Lila whispers into my left ear.

"More than ever." I responded, while a single tear raced down my cheek.
