Chapter 5 - Ivy

I shift from where I am with a small groan. Sitting up, I let out a slight hiss as a horrible ache flared in my neck. "Ow.." My neck is so stiff, goddamn.

Rubbing at my eyes, I yawn and stretch before looking around. I was in my office? I groan,, I fell asleep while doing pack work! Ugh, I can't believe I did this again.

'That was your fault, V. You tried to make an excuse for not sleeping with mate' Marlynn rolled her eyes at me. Why does my wolf have to be like this?

'Marylynn, leave me be. I actually got seventy percent of the work done. Why do Alphas get so much paperwork..?' I turned my head to the side until I heard a crack. I did it again and sighed. That will do for now.

"Hey" I jumped slightly and look around till I saw him at the door.

I cleared my throat and tried to comb through my hair with my hands. "Good morning, Kaito. Sleep well?"

Kaito shrugged, "Better than most" He still seemed low on energy but I can definitely see an improvement compared to yesterday.

I nodded, "I'm gonna head for a shower. As I said before, there is food in the fridge. After I'm done I guess I can show you around the pack" I smiled as I straightened out my clothes and stood up.

"Sure." He nods, "I'll just head back to your room because I'm not all that hungry."

I frowned, "You can head back to the room... I guess. Are you sure you aren't hungry?" I asked him. He nods. "Did you eat anything last night?"

"No, but it's fine." He shrugged pausing slightly. "Well, I shouldn't keep you from your shower. I'll be here when you're done."

I nod, "Of course." As I watched him leave, I packed up my papers into neat piles. I got up, stretching some more. "I'll see you in twenty minutes" I smiled, calling out to him.

I walked out of my office and went to the room, quickly grabbing a pair of leggings and a red flannel with a black tank top. I walked to my bathroom and did my daily routine: Shower, clothes. hair, and teeth.

Finally walking out, I saw him lying down on the bed, eyes closed. He looked peaceful.

'Lay down next to him please!' My wolf wagged her tail like a little puppy. I gazed at him and bit my lip. I slowly inched towards the bed and sat down next to his body.

He didn't move. I smiled softly.

After all this time, I finally have a mate.

I took hold of his hand and sighed at the feeling of those fireworks igniting. The sparks of energy crawled up my arm.

I felt his arm jerk at the contact, but he hadn't opened his eyes. Instead, he had moved towards me as he shuffled to his side.

I smile slightly which hung him in awe.

He pulled his hands away from me and brought them towards his face. "Hi," he mumbles, rubbing his eyes.

"Hello," I reply with a grin. "Are you ready, Kaito? If not, we can spend more time here until you are."

"As tempting as that is, you did mention something about exploring the pack?"

I nod. "Well you're in luck, I know this pack like I have been living here for centuries,b " I laughed a bit. He chuckled and sat up, our faces just inches away. I glanced at his lips and back into his mesmerizing blue eyes.

Calm yourself, Ivy. You only have met him for a day...

I got up from the bed and put my hands on my hips. "Alright, we're going. I want to show you around. I have been cooped up in my office for a long night and you have been in this house since we arrived yesterday," I gently grabbed him by the arm and began pulling him up. He chuckled as I did so. "Now let us go get some fresh air and walk around"

"Are you always like this?" He raised a brow at me with an amused expression.

I look at him with a smirk. "Yes.. I have been living with my uncle and his kids. I don't only restore order in the pack, you know" He nodded and I walked out of the room with him behind me.

When we walked out of the house, I felt content with the breeze hitting us softly.

I watched as the little pups smile and wave at me, each of them addressing me and giggling. I waved back, returning a smile to each of them.

We walked for a while with me pointing some things out, introducing him to some of the pack members passing by, and watching as the pack members around stayed content doing mundane things. We continued walking, our arms grazing each other. "I don't get it" I hear and turn to look at him, my features quizzical, no doubt.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, everything seems so... peaceful. Everybody looks so happy and calm. Usually, there's some stupid problems like fights or whatever," I shake my head and look in front of us as we continue to walk.

I felt proud of my pack. "It's crazy, I know. But as you can see here, it is very possible. The other Alphas doubted that I, a teenage female, could lead a pack into anything but chaos,"

As we passed other pack members, I began to remember the disbelief written on one of the Alpha's faces. He thought that I made a deal with a witch. He even went far as to think that the pack was faking this and only giving me an easier time because of my age. If only, haha.

I smiled. "It wasn't easy, if I'm going to be honest. Having responsibility like this won't ever be easy." Still looking forward, I feel his eyes on me now. "But I knew my parents would believe in me. I knew I could do it and lead the pack the way they would have wanted me to. Even with the help of my uncle and gamma" I laugh, "it's funny because the other Alphas still come here confused! They now ask me for advice on pack stuff and come here to have vacation time with their mates"

"Then there must be something special in you to make all of this happen"

I shrugged. "It takes hard work and respect, really" The pack supported me, they always have. Especially after the funerals, we all grieved and worked together. Even before, I knew I'd never be alone.

Now, I'm not going to keep myself dwelling on the past. A new chapter has started and I need to look forward to my future.

I feel something coming and I'm glad that I now have my mate for it.
