I walked with her around the pack as she introduced me to people. This pack was a lot bigger than mine was so I was also trying to remember how to get to places. It didn't work very well seeing as my mind was preoccupied with trying to understand what little I knew about mates. I still had a lot of questions.

What were the sparks? What's even the point of mates? How'd they come to be? What makes a mate so different from everyone else? What happens when you find your mate?

I was lost in thought until Ivy stopped walking. I looked up and saw where we were. It was an outdoor sports field.

"We have several sports fields around the pack. Hockey is inside, of course. Out here is lacrosse, football, soccer, basketball, and tennis. Even a track for our runners!" I looked down at her in amazement. "There are several around the pack. Plus a few pools."

Damn.

She chuckled, "The pack isn't so small, you know."

I was definitely going to get lost.

I chuckled a little as she nudged my arm, getting my attention. "I remember you said you played some sports with the humans. Mostly lacrosse. Maybe I can link for a few of the best players so you can play?"

"That'd be nice. Lacrosse was always a way for me to relieve stress." I realized what I said could be interpreted as her being stressful so I casually added, "or relax in general."

She nodded, her eyes glazing over like they did the day we met.

We waited a few minutes and a few guys walked over. They looked either a couple of years younger or older than me. All of them were very fit though. I could tell this was going to be a good game.

One of them ran to my mate and immediately hugged her. I felt my anger rising but wasn't entirely sure why.

"Ivy!! Congrats, Woman!" I stiffened when they laughed together. Toni didn't like it and wanted to take control but I couldn't let that happen. He's way too aggressive and violent.

"Damn it, Daniel! My hair! I'm gonna complain to Dom!" She easily got out of his grasp and fixed her hair. I calmed down at that statement, He had found his mate already.

"Do not bother him! He's busy finishing up his finals for school! I don't need in trouble with my mate." The man pouted with saddened eyes. Ivy smirked and crossed her arms.

"Then what do you say to your alpha?" she asked in a joking tone.

My anger died down.

He looked down at her and chuckled, "I'm sorry." He was clearly just feeding into the joke, but he was just adding humor to the situation so I laughed a little.

"All is forgiven. Now whos ready to play some lacrosse?" All the others nodded excitedly and went to go grab gear. Someone handed me some extra padding and held an eye guard and helmet in his hands.

"Helmet or eye protection?" he asked.

"Eye protection," I answered and he handed it to me. I walked to grab an extra stick that nobody had claimed.

Ivy divided us into even teams. I noticed she didn't have any gear on. "Are you going to play?" I ask her quietly.

She shook her head. "I play rough and save that for game nights."

"Game nights?" I asked.

"Twice a month, the whole pack participates in some hard team-building challenges. Some sports, board games, you know, group things. Now go play!" she chuckled pushing me towards the field.

Everyone was already in position and that left me only one spot, center. I got into position and smiled at the other team's center player. He nodded back and when the game started we both went for the ball with our sticks.

It was a little more of a struggle to get than when I played with the humans, but I managed to get the ball into the netting of my stick.

If I was being honest, I probably would have been upset if I hadn't gotten it. Lacrosse was my entire life. It was all I did. Every singled day that I wasn't with the group of werewolves I befriended, I was on the field with the human team.

I immediately threw it to one of my teammates and a few of them passed it back and forth until one was close enough to make the goal.

We repeated it all each team taking turns scoring. I was brainstorming how to use them checking my skills out to my advantage. They were keeping a close eye on me. I had an idea, and I got the ball from the other team.

During the next few seconds, I saw something in my peripheral vision, but there was nothing there when i looked over.

I ignored it focusing on the game and looked over just as someone body checked me. That was the plan, but I wasn't ready for us to both trip over our feet and fall to the ground. He had caught himself off guard and hit me in the side of the head with his racquet in an attempt to catch himself.

The guy who accidentally tackled me shot up and asked me if I was ok.

Maybe I should have worn the helmet.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Oh, by the way," I sat up with a smile and point towards the goal his team was protecting. "Score."

Right before he body checked me, I threw the ball in the air and my teammate caught it.

A little farther into the game, I felt Toni fighting to have control. It was only because I had been too energetic. I knew that because he's done it in every game I played. Usually, he backed off after realizing we were playing with humans, but today we weren't so he was still trying.

I turn away from the game knowing my eyes were changing to their purple ones. I didn't want anyone seeing that because nobody else had purple eyes, as far as i could tell. It wasn't normal. The slight headache I had from the impact of the ground was amplified as he argued with me.

I can't let him out. He's too aggressive. I didn't want to hurt anyone. Not here, not ever. I hear Ivy asking me something as she walks up and I froze in panic.

What if he hurts her?
