Chapter 9:

Beep.

Beep.

Beeeeeeeeeeep.

Flatline.

I looked over to the hospital bed to see my father still as could be. A new set of lights and buzzers went off.

"Dad!" I screamed racing to his side. "Dad wake up! Come in daddy I need you to wake up!" I sobbed uncontrollably.

Nurses and practitioners scrambled into the room basically throwing me into the corner by the collar of my shirt. I wasn't able to comprehend most of their vocabulary, everything was foreign to me. The sigh was pure horror even through my tear blurred vision.

"Miss we are going to have to ask you to leave." The nurse spoke not even implying it was a question.

"No." I whined.

"Charging... clear!"

I screamed and covered my face with my arms burying myself deeper into the corner.

"Eve, Eve!" A familiar voice called.

"Charging... Clear!"

"Daddy no!" I sobbed forcing myself deeper into the corner.

"Eve!" The voice sounded again.

"One more time. Charging 200... Clear!"

I prayed for the staccato beeping to resume. I braced myself slowly opening one eye only to be crushed to see the heart monitor line still flat.

"Time of death was-"

"Eve!"

The voices warped together, the one calling my name more audible than the other.

"Eve wake up!"

I sprang up to find myself in bed with Niall hovering over me expressing ominous concern. His hand came up to my delicate cheek and slowly wiped a tear away. I had no Idea I was crying in my sleep.

"It's okay Eve. It was just a nightmare." He soothed wrapping me in his strong arms.

I couldn't help myself from falling them sobbing once more.

"Hey," he whispered into my ear. "How about tomorrow after we do see him, we go to Central Park for the day? You know to get your mind off of things."

"Okay, I'd like that." I sniffled. "Like on a date?"

"If you want to put a label on it." He spoke with a cheeky smile.

I began to smile back until the horrible image appeared once again creating a tidal wave of fear to pour out of my eyes.

"Hun it was just a nightmare. It's not going to happen." Niall comforted.

"I know but... But-"

"I understand. Get some rest." He said about to stand.

"No!" I cried. "Don't leave me!"

"Never." He spoke crawling back in my bed.

He opened his arms enticing me in. I had no problem collapsing into them. At this point I was mentally and physically fatigued as well as emotionally drained.

I awoke to find Niall wake and staring down on me.

"Morning! Sleep well?" He greeted full of joy.

I shook my head in agreement not fully awake yet.

"I didn't know you were such a cuddler!" He teased. I looked down to notice our legs intertwined and my arms wrapped firmly around his chest.
