Chapter 21:

"Love you too Mom. I miss you. Talk to you soon. Bye." Niall hung up his phone and walked into the living room.

It was the third time this week have had talked to her and it was only Tuesday afternoon.

"Niall is everything alright? You have been on your phone constantly the past week." I asked concernedly while stroking Layla's soft fur.

"Yeah everything is fine."

His lack of content said otherwise.

"You're lying." I abruptly concluded.

"Eve I'm not lying." Niall harshly denied.

He had been so on edge this whole week and it wasn't like him. He grabbed his keys and stormed outside.

"Wait where are you going?" I ran out behind him.

"For a drive." He angrily spat.

Before I had time to reply to him, he was gone. Was he mad at me? How would that explain the numerous phone calls? I was probably just over thinking all of this. When Niall got home I would sit him down and figure all this out. For now I would wait. Sitting still was never a quality I possessed and not even a minute later I was wandering around. I decided to go to see Ava down in the field. I walked down the dirt road to the stable with Layla following close behind and occasionally nipping at my ankles playfully. For the short week I had owned Layla, she had grown rapidly to where she was about my height.

"Hey sweetie." I stoked her neck and she affectionately neighed in response.

I lightly kissed her cheek and turn away looking for Layla. I found her ambitiously chasing after a butterfly off in the green pasture.

"Layla! Come here!" I yelled in my pet friendly voice while patting my thighs.

She eagerly sprinted over with her tongue flapping out the side and jumping into my arms. It was gorgeous day but the persistent thought of something begin wrong with Niall put a haze over it. I had already lost track of time and needed to get home before he got home.

"Bye beautiful." I kissed Layla's nose one last time before making sure the latch was firmly locked. With a slight jog in my step my feet carried me him. Just as I closed the door, Niall's car flew into the driveway and he stepped out on his phone once more. His lovely voice was carries by the wind through the window and was quite audible to me.

"To come home." Was what I heard him finish.

He quickly ran across the deck and inside.

"Hey I wanted to talk to you." I greeted him kindheartedly.

"Give me a few minutes." He snapped with a shaky voice.

"Um okay." I timidly spoke while stepped back and fumbling me my hands.

He released a sigh before approaching me. The expression on his face said he was sorry for snapping at me.

"We can talk in a few minutes, is that alright?" His watery looking eyes stared into mine and he quietly spoke while sliding his arms around my waist and intertwining his fingers around my back.

"Yeah." I quietly replied and looked down.

He pressed a kiss to my fore head and headed to other direction, tossing his phone on the couch while doing so. Shortly after I heard the water in the shower turn on. A shower in the middle of the day? That was not like him. I decided to put my loyalty aside and go through his phone. It wasn't that I thought he would mind but the fact that I was doing it behind his back in search of something that would tell me what was effecting him. I types in his passcode at the revelation of his lock screen. His home screen was a picture of him and his brother from what appeared to be his last visit to Ireland. I went into his messages and saw many from his mom, brother and multiple friends. Each conversation consisted of talk about Ireland and the term Niall coined as 'home'. At that point it could be more obvious, Niall was terribly homesick. I click the lock button and it became even more apparent when a group photo of his whole family popped up. I couldn't help but feel guilty for Niall's distraught; I had been keeping him in America. Pondering how I could help him, I grabbed his Laptop and googled Orbitz.
