Chapter 13:

"Miss Blue?" A quiet voice spoke.

A turned around to face it.

"Would you mind signing a few papers for us?" He politely asked.

"Um sure." I replied.

"Thank you. I'm so sorry for your loss."

I could tell she didn't actually care. We walked into a small, crowded office with tons of binders and papers piled up on endless shelves and cabinets.

"We just need you to sign this for your father and set up a payment plan." She announced while handing me a clipboard stuffed with asset information, agreement documents, bills, contacts, insurance coverages and his death certificate. He had just passed nearly ten minutes ago and they think I can handle even more stress? Did they think this was easy?

I initialed and signed in several places before handing it back to her.

"Thanks. Now we need a payment plan. It looks like the insurance company will cover a good amount. For his 2 week say it was about $105,000 and his treatment was nearly $83,000 which insurance will cover. Home insurance covers fires but not clean up or reconstruction. Clean up alone will be $14,000. Your dad had about 7,000 in retirement funds that you can use."

"Wait does anyone know how the fire started yet?" I questioned though I really didn't want to know.

"Let me look... It seems to be that a beer bottle was spilled on the gas stove and caused an explosion. When he was admitted his blood alcohol content was nearly .23 when his legal limit for his weight is .05. It appeared to be alcoholism from chronic depression."

It all made sense now. The broken bottles everywhere. Everything shattered and broken on the floor. It was all him drinking his cares away and trying to forget about mom. I was blown away and crying even harder, if that was even possible.

"I'm sorry Eve. As for burial and funeral cost its usually between $8,000 and $10,000. Would you like to set that up now?"

"I'll think we'll pass for the time being." Niall spoke up for me.

"Okay no problem. So overall you will need to pay... $3,519. Not including funeral costs."

"What?! There's no way I can afford that!" I was stunned.

"Can we have a minute to figure this out?" Niall requested.

"Absolutely." The nurse smiled.

Niall and I exited the room. Everything was falling apart around me. I just wanted to shrivel into nothing.

"Stay strong Eve. We will work this out." Niall whispered.

"No we can't do anything." I cried into his chest.

"Hun we can figure out something. How much is your rent?"

"Like $1,200 a month." I didn't quite see where he was going with this.

"Well how about you move in with me so we can put your rent and trust fund towards the bill and then I'll pay for the rest."

"You would do that?" I gasped.

"Absolutely!"

"No I could never make you do that!" I tried to push him away.

"I insist! It would be my pleasure!" Niall tried to persuade me.

"But-"

"Shhh," He pressed a finger to my lips and wiped a tear away. "Stay calm."

He brought is face as close as possible to mine. His lips dangled above my own making me anticipate a kiss. I got just that.
