Chapter 15:
"Would you like a burial, cremation or entombment?" The director of the funeral home asked me.
I am a 19 year old girl, how was I supposed to know all of these things?
"I... Um... I don't know."
"Well you could always do two things like cremation and burial or cremation and entombment."
"Cremation and burial. Would that be good?" I looked at Niall.
"That's up to you." He replied.
"Lets do that." I sighed.
"Okay. How many people will be attending?" The director, Gabby, questioned.
"Not many. Some family from Denver will be flying in but besides that just some local friends. Probably now more than 15."
"Where you you like to have the ceremony?"
"I think my dad would want it at the cemetery and I remember him talking about how he wanted to be buried my my mom." My eyes welled up with tears once more.
"We can have everything set up and the headstone in by the twenty ninth and we can also have the funeral then if that will work?" Gabby interrogated.
"Yeah. That will be great. All of the family is coming tomorrow so they will have a little time to rest." I explained.
"Okay. Now for the fun stuff." Gabby started.
Fun? How in the world was this fun?
"We need more funeral details. Flowers, portraits, music, sermon, things like that." Gabby suggested.
She acted as if this was the easiest thing in the world. Like it wasn't a big deal at all. This my father's funeral! Perhaps the most important event I have ever had to organize in my life! It was overwhelming.
"Just take it one step at a time." Niall encouraged giving my hand a supporting squeeze.
"Is there any specific color scheme you hand in mind for flowers?" Gabby bombarded me again.
"My dad loved boats so maybe something with the navy blues and white?" I wasn't confident enough make a pure statement.
"How beautiful," Gabby smiled. "Now are there any specific songs you want to play while people arrive and gather or we can just do instrumental?"
One song in specific came to mind. My mother's from her funeral.
"Things Left Unsaid by Disciple." I squeezed my eyes closed trying to fight back the memories that flooded my eyes.
"If you like you can email me some photos and I can put them in a slide show to that song for the reception?"
"That sounds nice." I agreed.
"Other sounds we play for a fathers passing are When I Get Where I Am Going by Brad Paisley, Hero by Mariah Carey, Already There by Lonestar. Things like that." Gabby suggested.
"Any will work. I don't mind." I sighed getting frustrated.
"Are you sure hun?" Niall pitched in.
"Yeah. Just do as you please with that stuff." I issued to Gabby.
"Is there a specific priest you would like to lead the service?"
"He was pretty good friends with Father Steven if he's available. I've known him all my life."
"I can call him later to check. If you have known him so long I doubt he could deny."
