Chapter Six ✯¸.•'*¨'*•✿✿•*'¨*'•.¸✯
An argument broke out between the two men, confusing the group more.
"Ward's kicking the shit out of Gavin" Pope reported. Without the telephoto, the others could only see blurry figures fumbling around. Avery tried to snatch the device from Pope's hands but he slapped her away. "Holy shit. Ward's got a gun"
"I bet that's the murder weapon" Kie breathed out. The tension thickened with her words.
Gunshots ran through the damp air. Avery gasped loudly and immediately dropped, pushing herself up against the short wall. She screwed her eyes shut, feeling the rain hitting her face. The feeling caused her skin to prickle with goosebumps. Avery listened to her friends freak out, not knowing what to do. They had possibly just got a murder on camera, clear evidence to use against Ward. Something he couldn't deny.
"Tell me you just got that" JJ whispered, eager for Pope to respond. They needed evidence, for John B.
"Enough to put this asshole away for life" He confirmed. The answer made Avery let out a long breath, resting her head back against the wall as she peeled open her eyes, squinting at the droplets. "This is freaking crazy"
Avery hadn't moved when Pope ushered them to get down again. She watched as JJ and Kie immediately obeyed and ducked back down, staying out the sight of Ward. The blond boy told them they should go, satisfied with what they had caught on record. Pope stopped them from moving, telling them that Ward had left the site and was searching for the gun that had been dropped in the fight.
"I think the gun just went down the drain. He's looking for it" Pope told them, moving with Ward as the man chased the gun down the road. "Hey, he's looking for the gun"
"Hold this" Kie demanded before standing up. Avery and JJ immediately questioned her, afraid of what she was going to do next.
"Kie, get down!" Avery hissed quietly. She shuffled closer to her friend and failed to get a hold on her.
"What is wrong with you? Murderer!" She yelled. Avery and JJ jumped onto her. While JJ tried to cover her mouth, muffling her screaming, Avery kept attempting to drag her away.
"I don't care if he hears me. He's a murderer" Kie defended, unashamed of her actions.
"Yeah, and we will be his next victims if you don't quit it" Avery harshly whispered, shocked and angered by her impulsive behaviour.
"Guys, he sees us" Pope panicked. Within seconds, the group scrambled and plotted their escape.
Her heart was beating fast. Avery didn't hesitate to push in front of Kie to reach the ladder seconds before her. The blonde blindly climbed down, unaware of how close her ex boyfriend was below. Her sneakers were slippy on the wet metal, making it hard for her to keep her balance. She squinted up to see Kie following closely. Even though she was mad at her for what she had just done, no Pogue gets left behind.
