chapter twenty-nine.
Danielle sat up on the bed as she ran a hand down her face. It was after three in the morning, her stomach growling intensely causing her to groan. She looked down at Nour and saw he was asleep, his naked chest rising up and down slowly with an arm thrown over his face.
She slowly stood up from the bed, slipping on her house shoes and walking into the dark hallway. The last month and a half living with Nour was something she was still getting used to. He didn't let her do a thing, not even clean and it made her feel like something out of a tv show. He'd come home from work with flowers and treats for the kids. His bond with all three of them made her emotional every time. The boys loved Nour and Nura, and Sophia had Nour wrapped around her little finger.
Nour and Danielle's relationship kept growing more and more intense. They never spoke about labels, everything simply falling into place along with Nour constantly reassuring that they were his family now. Everywhere they went, it was husband and wife and the kids added to the image. It made Danielle feel warm. As if she was finally getting her fairytale ending. They made love almost every night, Nour taking more care of Danielle than anyone has ever done in her forty-two years of living.
Danielle tapped her foot against the ground as she stared into the fridge after checking on her sleeping children. She was so hungry even though they all ate dinner. Her appetite has been ravenous, Danielle gaining a little weight from all of the eating she's been eating. They had an Egyptian pasta bake for dinner that Danielle nearly devoured on her own.
"You okay?" Nura's voice startled Danielle as she looked over at the hallway. The young woman was standing by the sink as she drank from her bottle of water.
"Yeah just peckish."
"What are you in the mood for? I'll make you something."
"Really?" Danielle squeaked, Nura nodding with a smirk as she walked more into the kitchen. Danielle sat down on the seat at the island as Nura stared into the fridge.
"There's this amazing cherry tomato sandwich that I-"
"Please. Please please." Danielle nearly begged causing Nura to chuckle with a nod before handing Danielle her bag of dates. Danielle smiled, opening the package and biting into it as Nura started to grab the ingredients for her sandwich. Danielle chewed and chewed, stomach still rumbling under her robe.
"You know.." Nura started as she placed butter into the now heated pot. Danielle looked up as the woman spoke, watching as she melted the butter while placing two pieces of toast into the toaster.
"We have eight siblings. My mother had our youngest sister at forty-six. She didn't have any symptoms or even knew she was pregnant until the day Shams was born. She just gave birth one day while down at the riverbank near our home in Egypt." Danielle swallowed her date as she stared at Nura who just continued to make Danielle's sandwich. She fried the long slices of mozzarella, the fried cheese causing Danielle's stomach to knot with hunger.
"My brother loves you a lot. I've never seen him act this way before. Not even with Iyana was he so gentle and accommodating. The way he speaks of you is something out of the ordinary."
"I know, and I love him back just as much."
"You do?" Nura asked as she placed the sandwich in front of Danielle. The aroma was heavenly to her nostrils, Danielle licking her lips as she thanked Nura. She bit into the sandwich, her eyes nearly rolling back as the different flavors embedded into her tongue.
