Wishes (Ellie Williams)

Chapter 2- Serious Question

Lily had just put a gas can next to Joel as he began to siphon from another car, Ellie had walked up to him a couple moments earlier. They were stopped at on old gas station, obviously needing more gas from the road trip.

"It's a siphon, it's when liquid travels against gravity, because pressure-" Joel began to answer Ellie's questions before she cut him off, "you don't know" she put a cocky grin on her face as she laughed at Joel, "I know it works" he retorted.

Lily softly smiled at the pair as she leaned against the car just listening to them. "No wandering" Joel called to Ellie as she began to turn away, only to turn back at his order. "Okay, this is your fault then" she said before unzipping her bag.

Lily tried to lean over to see what she was getting but she couldn't see from her angle behind Joel. She turned around with a small book in her hand. Lily recognized the book and smiled dropping her head. Waiting for the puns to come.

"It doesn't matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationary" Ellie laughed, briefly noticing Lily mouth the joke as she said it but choosing not to acknowledge it.

Lily moved to stand next to Ellie, wanting to see Joel's face. He looked horrified and disgusted all at once, Lily found it hilarious looking at the older man look at Ellie awestruck by what was happening.

"No pun intended. Volume too, by Will Livingston. Volume too, look. You get it? Too. Like t o o" Ellie said with a huge smiled stuck on her face as she explained it to Joel.

"Jesus" Joel whispered under his breath as he stood up.

"What did the mermaid wear to her math class?" Ellie started again.

"An algae bra" Lily spoke up, smiling faintly.

"You've read this!" Ellie practically threw herself onto Lily causing her to stumble back and grip Ellie's arms to hold herself up. "My sister use to read these to me" Lily replied.

"You're sister must've been so fucking cool" Ellie laughed.

Lily only hummed in response trying not to think of her older sister, trying not to think about where she was, or if she's dead, or why she never came looking for her. She only brushed it off and looked up now noticing her and Ellie's stance.

Lily was holding both of Ellie's arms and one of Ellie's gripped her arm back and her other hand had the book in it while it was gently resting on Lilys waist.

Ellie seemed to notice it too, both girls stepped back and looked towards their feet blushing, Lily scratched her head and looked up and Joel who was looking between the two girls with narrowed eyes, but a very faint smile on his face.

Lily rolled her eyes at him, "I'm gonna go wait in the truck with sage" she announced before turning and heading towards the truck.

She let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding once she shut the door of the vehicle, her stomach in knots as she shook the feeling off of herself.

Only a couple moments later did Joel get back in the truck as Ellie got in the backseat with Lily and sage.

"Must've been some truck" Ellie commented looking out of the back window as they left the gas station, "yeah they use to stick big-ass plows on them, and clear the roads for their tanks and such." Joel commented.

Ellie whipped her head around to look at him, "I wanna see a tank!" She almost whined while saying it, it was cute, Lily was trying not to stare at her but it was kind of hard not to with how close they were, and with well, how pretty she was.

"You will" Joel broke Lily out of her trance as Ellie moved to sit back down facing forwards, "tanks, choppers, all that stuff. But they'll fight the wrong enemy. Just scattered around now." Joel continued as Ellie began to dig through the backseats.
