Joel wasn't getting any better. In fact, his wound started to get infected as of recently. It's been another week.

The girls were growing more impatient and more worried every second that passed. Both beginning to lose sleep, both more on edge and quiet, even with each other.

The whole situation was throwing them off in more ways then one. They needed him to get better but they didn't know how to help.

Ellie was downstairs checking on Joel, and trying to get him to eat and drink but it was no use.

"Hey el!" Lily called from the top of the stairs as she threw her jacket on. The response she got was footsteps approaching her from the stairs, Lily backed up to give Ellie room to enter the kitchen area.

"Im going out, see if I can find anything" Lily mumbled while she counted her arrows, making sure they were all there before throwing them and the bow across her shoulders and straightening them out.

"Alright, I'll come with" Ellie said quietly, moving her way around Lily and to the chair her jacket was hanging over. "Nah I got it today, stay here with Joel, I'll be good"

"Yeah I know you'll be good but you've made me stay back the past five times, I need to leave this house" Ellie grumbled, shoving past Lily and exiting the door.

The two weren't angry with each other by any means. But as stated before. They were on edge. More then ever. Neither took the shoves or harsh tones or short conversations personally, they knew the other was feeling the same way. They didn't know how to handle themselves with Joel this ill. They were in constant bad moods. And they matched each others moods. If one of them was angrier then the other in a moment, the anger would be matched.

"Fine, just stop fucking shoving into me, you're starting to hurt my shoulder" Lily grumbled rolling her shoulder a bit as she closed the door behind her following Ellie out into the snow.

Ellie gave her no response other than a grunt as they made their way through the snow covered forest in silence, eyes watching the bushes carefully as they quietly crept along the path they'd now walked so many times.

Lily put her arm out in front of Ellie causing the girl to stop in her tracks as she spotted a rabbit. Lily quickly strung an arrow and aimed. Fired. And hit her target. She smiled and nodded to herself before she turned to look at Ellie who began walking to her with a blank expression.

Lily watched as Ellie tripped over a branch and fell face first into the snow. Normally, this would be something Lily would tease her for and laugh at her for for the rest of the day. But times have changed, and hopes were low. So Lily only walked forward and held her hand out to Ellie who was wiping her face off.

"I can get up just fine on my own thanks" Ellie huffed and pushed herself up and walked away from Lily.

Lily put her arms up in sarcasm before grunting and quietly mimicking the girl before following her.

It was now Ellie's turn to stop Lily. Though Lily didn't see what Ellie did and as she went to speak in protest and push Ellie's arm away from her Ellie put her hand over the red heads mouth and pointed forward. Lilys eyes followed the trail the girls finger was making.

A deer.

Lilys heart skipped a beat for the first time in a while.

Both of them dropped to a crouch. Ellie had Joel's gun up and Lily had her arrow strung and pointed at the animal.

Ellie shot first. Hitting the animal in the side as it limped away.

"No fucking way" Ellie whispered. Both girls took off after the animal, following the blood trail it had made.
