Chapter 7- Sally Ride

It had been 3 months.

3 months since they lost Sam and Henry.

It was winter now. Lily hated the winter, she hated everything about it. It made her sad, she hated being cold, she hated how her shoes and the bottoms of her pants were always wet due to walking in the snow. She had come to the conclusion it was her least favorite season.

But she was beginning to feel better, to be more upbeat again after losing the boys.

It had taken a toll on her, everything about how it went down really struck her hard. She couldn't bare having to bury anyone else, she honestly didn't even know if she could. It would break her if she had to again.

But, all things considered, she was really starting to come back out of her shell once again, the trio had grown closer. Joel would rather die than admit that, but even he couldn't deny it.

Lily and Ellie hadn't talked of the kiss they shared, both of them continued on acting as if it never happened. But both would think of it every time they looked at the other. Longing for it again but both refusing to act on it.

At the current moment however, Lily and Ellie were in a cabin, hiding together on the top floor peering down at the older women who sat in her rocking chair who had made them soup earlier.

Joel was around the corner from her, all three waiting for the woman's husband to return.

And he did.

The man walked into the cabin staring at his wife without words before putting his bow down and taking his gloves off.

Both girls watched intently waiting for Joel to make his oh so dramatic appearance.

"And the gun" his voice boomed around the room, breaking the uncomfortable silence between the two strangers.

The girls watched as Joel rounded the corner, "who the hell are you?" The man asked as Joel stepped into view with his gun out.

"Just someone passing through, take the gun out, two fingers only, put it out of reach" Joel instructed the much older man, he did as Joel asked and looked to his wife.

"Why didn't you shoot him?"

"The guns all the way over there"

Lily tried not to snicker at that, she quite liked the older women, she was very unintentionally funny.

"He didn't hurt me by the way"

"Yeah I got eyes" the man paused looking around, "you made him soup?"

"Yeah I did. It's cold out" the woman replied, hardly any emotion in her voice as she continued to rock in her chair, her husband sitting down now as well.

Lily started to grow antsy, getting uncomfortable crouched low, she bit at her nail trying to avoid bouncing her foot as to not make any noise. She could feel it from Ellie to. Both girls wanted to go down and be next to Joel.

"Im looking for my brother" Joel announced plainly, the man scoffed at Joel rolling his eyes very slightly. "Well I ain't seen him."

"I haven't told you what he looks like" Joel bit back at the man, "he look anything like you?" "A bit" "then I ain't seen him"

"He's got two girls with him" the lady now spoke outing the girls.

"Can we come down?" Ellie called.

"Thank fuck, finally" Lily grumbled.

Joel protested and told them to stay put but it was no use, both girls were already down the stairs and practically prancing over to Joel.
