Chapter 5- Please

Lily felt as if they had been walking through tunnels for an eternity. None of them spoke for almost the whole time they were walking through the tunnels. It was just silent between all of them. But it wasn't a nice silence, it was eerie, like they were being watched or followed, it was unsettling. Lily had her gun clutched in her hand the whole time, her palms growing sweaty.

She could tell sage was off put as well by how many times the cat would move around in her backpack, and the fact that she could hear him panting in her ear.

"Do you know where we are?" Joel broke the silence as he stepped through a door, the rest following his lead, "yep, the other side" Henry responded quietly as they all looked around their surroundings for a second.

They were outside, thank god, thank the universe, thank whatever, Lily was just so ecstatic that she was breathing fresh air instead of the dusty thick air in the tunnels.

They had been walking for a couple minutes again before stumbling into an old neighborhood, it was pitch black outside, but none of them had their flashlights on just in case.

"No, no one is here, no one's gonna be here because my plan worked" Henry said to the group, as he was signing with Sam.

"So much god damn talkin" Joel mumbled, Lily walked in step next to him, clutching her bag with one hand and her gun in the other.

"I'm just saying. I delivered. Make this right, go down the street, embankment behind the last house. And we're out" Henry gloated, proud of himself that his plan worked.

Lily only rolled her eyes, he couldn't see her, but she was annoyed in the slightest, she was tired, it was dark, she just wanted somewhere that she could sleep at this point.

She liked Henry and Sam, quite a bit actually, even if she had hardly spoken the either of the boys, they were nice company, she just wanted Henry to be quiet for now, until she's in a better mood, aka when she got sleep.

"So we cross the river and then what? Where are you gonna go?" Ellie asked the older boy, "don't know yet" he responded.

"Well we're going to Wyoming"

Lily could practically feel Joel tense next to her as he looked back at Ellie, if looks could kill, Ellie would have dropped dead.

"What?! It's a huge state, it can fit two more people" she rolled her eyes at Joel who only turned back around and kept walking.

"Yeah, maybe we just call this one a success, and say our farewells" Henry said quietly. Ellie didn't give up though on the idea of them going with the original three.

"No he'll change his mind trust me. This is how it goes. He's like, no Ellie, never ever ever happening, and then I'm like, I'm gonna ask you a million more times, and he's like" she got cut off. She almost got Lily to break into a smile as she waited to hear her imitate Joel again but there was a gun shot behind them.

All five of them ducked on instinct at the shot, "move! Move! Go!" Joel shouted as he basically dragged his girls to the nearest car next to him.

"The fuck is that coming from!?" Henry shouted.

"Shut up" Joel snapped at him quickly, Henry and Sam tried to run away but got cut off by more shots, they came back to the car quickly.

"What do we do?"

"All right, stay here" Joel started quietly, looking at the girls, talking to all of them but talking to the girls more sternly.

"What?" Ellie asked looking at him.

"If you don't move, he's not gonna hit you. I'm gonna go around, and try and get into the house from the back, and then I'll take him out" he explained, Lily bit at her thumb nail nervously as she listened.
