It had been an entire month. Lily tried not to freak out, she really did, she was successful in not showing she was freaking out, because she didn't want to freak Ellie out more then the girl already was. But truth be told, Lily woke up and went to bed nauseous every day, the worst possible thoughts and outcomes constantly running through her head at all times. She wished she had forgiven Joel sooner, hoped he had heard her.
Joel had been in some sort of coma for a month. There were moments he would open his eyes and look at the girls a mumble things they couldn't decipher and fall right back into his coma where he wouldn't move an inch for days.
Lily had been counting the days, technically if she counted right, the month marker would be tomorrow, but she's rounding up, it's been a month she and Ellie haven't had Joel with them, consciously at least.
In the mean time, Lily had begun to teach Ellie how to properly hunt, how to dress the animals, how to start fires, how to use her bow. Basically just how to survive. It got them out of the house they were holed up in. It distracted them.
They still had both of their horses, but neither took them out much. It was still winter unfortunately, which also made hunting harder. Food more scarce, bushes and trees dead. But they were managing just fine on their own.
Neither had spoken of the kisses since a month ago, and this time didn't plan to. And this time they weren't even thinking about the sweet moments they had shared, the only thing the two could think of was Joel, how they were going to get him better and how they were going to survive. Recently each time they would look at each other, it would just be for comfort, or in admiration, they obviously still had feelings, but those could wait. Wait till they were safe, wait till they had their Joel back. That's all they wanted. Joel.
Both girls were out hunting at the moment, they'd left Joel to sleep in the basement they'd managed to get him in. As they walked into the forest, as usual, Lily just replayed the last time she'd heard his voice. When he was telling the two girls to leave him for dead.
~~flashback (from a month ago)~~
Ellie had Joel downstairs in the basement, he was awake now and panicking. Lily could only assume, and or hope Ellie would try and somehow look at his wound and see if they had anything to fix it.
Meanwhile Lily had just checked the neighborhood they were in and made sure it was safe enough for the time being before she tied the horses up and ran downstairs to help Ellie with Joel.
"Shut up Joel" she heard Ellie's voice snap as she entered the basement, her eyes finding both of them on the ground, Ellie's hand on top of his wound attempting to get the bleeding to stop.
"Take the gun" Joel whispered. "Joel shut the fuck up!" Ellie yelled at him.
Lily was now on her knees at Ellies side, Joel's hands finding both of them and pulled them closer to him. "You two, go. You go. You go north. You go to Tommy. You go" he shook before pushing them back causing them to brace themselves on their hands as they fell to the floor.
Lily felt Ellie stand next to her, she turned her head to watch the girl with wide eyes, "Ellie we're not leaving him" Lily whispered as she caught up to Ellie who was already half way up the stairs at this point.
"Not a chance" Ellie confirmed before Lily began to panic.
"Okay, so what are we doing?" Lily asked as the two of them made it to the top of the stairs.
"Help me look. Anything to try and stitch him up" Ellie answered her, Lily's mind now snapping into action mode as she finally caught on to what she had to be doing to help Joel.
