Chapter 3- Hereditary

Lily had stayed up all night with Joel, the two barley spoke to one another, but nothing needed to be said, they both understood each other to different extents.

Neither of them could sleep anyways so they stood on watch together for hours while Sage slept with Ellie. Once dawn came around Lily told Joel she was going to go see if she could catch anything for breakfast.

She was somewhat successful, she had gotten back an hour or so later with three rabbits in hand, Joel nodded in approval as he took them from her and finished the dressing and cooking for her.

She sat on the trucks trunk as Sage sat with her, they watched Joel cook the rabbit and make his coffee, Lily sat there as he cooked while she sharpened a couple of her knives and cleaned off the arrows she had used hunting.

Lily looked up as she heard shuffling from where Ellie still laid, she started standing but still in her sleeping bag, it was cute, she looked like a worm as she shuffled her way over to where Joel's coffee was heating up.

She opened the lid and smelled it, "ughhh what the fuck is that!?" She groaned and shuffled away from the drink, Joel turned to look at her and he was now at Lilys side feeding Sage some of the rabbit.

"You don't like coffee?" Joel just said with a small smirk on his face as she rolled back onto her pillow on the ground.

They ate quick and set off, Lily sat up front with Joel as Ellie laid in the back with the tabby cat.

Ellie sat up and rested her face in her hands on the middle console between Lily and Joel.

"Is that seriously what those Starbucks in the QZ used to sell?" Ellie asked.

"Well, theirs was a lot fresher than what Bill saved up but yeah, this is what they sold" Joel answered.

"Smells like burnt shit" Ellie scoffed, Joel purposely brought the drink to his lips and slurped it annoyingly to piss Ellie off.

"Do you like it?" Ellie turned to Lily, "God no I hate coffee" Lily rolled her eyes gently before looking at the map she was holding.

"76 west and then 70 west for like ever" Lily looked over to Joel who just nodded.

"Where in Wyoming did you say your brother was?" Ellie asked Joel.

"Last contact came through a radio tower close to Cody" he responded.

Ellie looked forward to look at the map and search for Cody with Lily, "Cody. Cody, ah man, that is deep up in there, and if he's not there?" Ellie commented.

"Then odds are he'll be near a settlement, probably close to another city out there. Ain't to many of them in Wyoming" Joel responded.

Lily started zoning out the rest of their conversation as she looked out the window watching the fields pass by.

Not really thinking of anything but at the same time thinking of everything. Thinking of Abby, thinking of her dad of why they never came back for her. Thinking of if the three of them are gonna make it during this trip. Thinking of Ellie. And how annoying it was that the girl corrupted Lilys mind in such a short time and for reasons that Lily didn't even know.

"Well then if I'm not family would you consider Lily family?" She heard Ellie say, Lily looked back to them, Joel looked over at the long haired girl who he'd known for a little over a year now.

"I'd consider Lily as a friend" Joel said. "Damn, fuck you to" Lily joking punched his arm, "wow I'm not even a friend" Ellie rolled her eyes.

"Don't worry, we can team up on him later" Lily looked at the girl who smiled at her for longer then she should have.
