The two headed back to JJ's house so that the boy could change back into some regular clothes. As he got changed, Callie sat on his bed reading a book she'd found on his shelf. It was one she had brought him for his birthday years ago, hoping to get him into reading. She didn't think that he had read it though, so she just read part of it each time she came over and then updated him on what was happening.
The boy finished getting dressed, looking over at Callie as he shut his chest of drawers. JJ loved watching her read. He liked how she got a crease in her brow when something interesting happened, or the scrunch of her nose when she was confused.
But what he loved most, was hearing her tell him about the books she read. Callie always got so passionate, the pace of her speech picking up as she really got into it. He could see how much she enjoyed telling him about the books.
That's why he didn't have the heart to tell her that he had already read the book she was reading and preparing to tell him about. She had given it to him on his fourteenth birthday and slowly he had made his way through it. With the small crush that he had on her growing, he wanted to seem as interesting to the girl as the boys she was normally interested in.
As he walked over to her, he could see how engrossed she was in whatever was happening now. He stopped in front of her, pulling on one of his caps, "Alright, ready to go?"
"Yeah, just let me finish this chapter," she mumbled as she turned the page.
"Cal, time limit, remember?" the boy laughed, tapping his watch.
The girl blushed as she stuck a bookmark between the pages and shut the book. "Right. Sorry."
"You don't need to apologise. Let's go," JJ said, holding his hand out to the girl as she put the book down.
Callie accepted his hand, letting him help her to her feet before they walked outside hand-in-hand. They got onto JJ's bike and the boy took them to their next destination, moving on to the next step in the boy's plan.
When they stopped and JJ got off of the bike, Callie grabbed onto his arm to get him to stop momentarily. "Hey, are you sure about this?" she asked him quietly.
"We don't have a choice, Cal," JJ replied firmly. "We both know what way this verdict is going to go - they're going to kill him."
Callie thought about it for a moment, before nodding. He was right, there was no way that Ward would let Rafe go down for this.
"Okay. Let's do it," she nodded.JJ whistled as they approached the house. JJ's Cousin Ricky called from down the side of his house. The two teens went around to see the man sitting in a chair with some tools and his bike by his side.
