JJ, Callie, John B and Kiara waited quietly in the shipping container. After about five minutes, Callie found herself getting anxious, so she decided to go and sit away from the grate to try and distract herself.
Kiara had joined her, the two girls talking quietly. Taking the chance to think about something else, Callie decided to ask her about something that had been on her mind.
"So, I noticed that you aren't at Flo's throat anymore. You know? Considering you kissed her. What's going on there?"It was dark in the shipping container, but Callie knew she could see Kiara blushing. "Nothing."
"Oh, come on, Kiara. I know you," Callie countered. "You know, she's not a Pogue, so you're not breaking your rule."
Kiara's mouth fell open, surprised at how freely her friend was discussing this. She knew that her friends wouldn't judge who she chose to be with, but the thought - the possibility - still scared her.
"Our rule. And I know that," she said quietly after a moment. "It's just. . . still really new. We barely know what's going on yet."
"But you like her?"
Kiara chuckled before nodding, "Yeah. I think I do."
Callie shuffled closer to the girl, putting an arm around her and holding her close, "Well, I'm happy for you."
Kiara shouldn't have been so surprised by Callie's openness, given that the girl enjoyed sharing an opinion or two. She was more relieved that she hadn't told her that she was crazy or just flat-out rejected her.
Much to their surprise, it didn't take all too long before they heard the announcement that they had been waiting for. When they heard the intercom buzz, John B whistled for Kiara and Callie to come back to the grate. They all stood there quietly, listening to Eberhime.
"Attention, all passengers and crew. Report to the tween forward hull. Attention, all passengers, all crew, report to the tween forward hull. That's an order. Repeat. All hands and all passengers report to the tween forward hull immediately."
"They took the bridge," John B sighed.
"That's our boy," JJ smiled proudly. "All right, split up. Once they're all in the hull, Callie and I will lock them inside."
John B nodded, "Kiara and I will find Sarah and get the lifeboat."
While she wasn't too thrilled about working with JJ, Callie knew that what they were doing there was more important than her feelings.
"We'll meet you guys, load the cross and get the hell outta here," Callie added.
