That night, Emory wasn't knocked out, instead a doctor came in. He took her blood and left. A peacekeeper came not too long after and opened the door.
"What?" She asked them.
"You are allowed to visit the other victors," the peacekeeper told her and she got up excitedly. She was being given so much in such little time. First she was on camera, then she didn't have to wear the hospital gowns and she was allowed other clothes, now she could walk around.
She went to the door and thought about who to visit first. She wanted to see the progress Johanna had. "May I visit Johanna?" The Peacekeeper nodded and led her to her room.
She got a nod from the peacekeeper and opened the door. Johanna looked up from her bed quickly. She looked different. Her face didn't have much color and her head have been shaven. "Hello Jo," Emory smiled at her.
"Em!" Johanna smiled. "I thought that since your screams stopped–"
Emory quickly headed to her bed and grabbed her hand. "I'm okay." Jo shook her head.
"You were the first one they did anything to, they started with electroshock, then the venom, you screamed day and night, how did you get it to stop?" Johanna asked, looking for help, pleading for it.
"I told them what I already knew, that the Capitol helped me and I was in their debt," Emory smiled at her, rubbing her face. Johanna's smile dropped and she slapped her hand away.
"They did that to you," Johanna cried and got angry. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER!" Soon a team of doctors and nurses rushed in. "YOU ASSHOLES! YOU HURT HER! FIX HER! FIX HER!" Her screams quieted and the peacekeeper led Emory away from her. Emory felt sick. Her entire stomach seemed to twist.
"I want to see Peeta," Emory told the peacekeeper. They nodded and lead her the other direction down the hallway. She did the same thing and pushed open the door. "Hello Peeta."
He looked up, smiling happily, "Emory, you're–you're alive!"
She laughed, gesturing to him, "so are you!" THey hugged each other from his place in bed.
"Uh, they told me about the video, they said I can see it soon. I'm going to be doing one of my own soon!" Peeta said excitedly. "They're going to interview us."
Emory's smile widened and she grabbed his hand and sat on the side of his bed. "I was talking to Enobaria and President Snow earlier, they said if we progressed just a little more, do good in the interview then we can stay in our floors that we did during the games!"
Peeta's eyes widened, "really?" She nodded. "Do you think Katniss is okay?"
Emory looked him in the eyes and her smile dipped, "Peeta, she's a rebel, she left us there to die, she was hoping we were going to die!"
"She didn't know anything! She was being manipulated by Finnick!" Peeta insisted.
Emory sighed, "okay, I believe you. But–" The door opened, cutting her off. It was her doctor.
"Sorry to cut this visit short, but I need to talk to Miss Falkum," the doctor told them and Emory nodded. She gave Peeta a kiss on the head and walked out of the room with the doctor.
They walked inside her room and Emory sat on the bed. "Is something wrong?"
"No, but I believe congratulations are in order."
Emory chuckled, "what congratulations, am I leaving this room?"
"You're pregnant."
"Pregnant?" Emory asked, confused. "I haven't been with anyone in months."
"And according to this you're 3-4 months along. About 14-15 weeks," the doctor said, reading off the chart. "I'll schedule some appointments with an ob/gyn. You should start showing in the next few weeks."
Emory put a hand on her stomach, "I was pregnant during the quarter quell?"
The doctor nodded, "Looks like that baby can live through as much as their mother has."
