“Oh my god Elena you have to look at this!” Emily gaped as she looked at the magazine. “You made the cover!”
“What!?” Elena ripped the magazine out of Emily’s hands and her jaw dropped. On the
cover was a picture of her and James kissing. It had been their last kiss and there was a caption that read ‘Looks like love is in the air for these two.’
“You two look amazing together,” Emily said over her shoulder. “Who is that by the way?”
Elena shook her head. “I don’t know. I only know his middle name is James and that’s what I call him.”
“Whoa you mean to tell me you don’t know this guy? Elena I thought…”
“I know him I just don’t know who he is.” Emily glared at her and Elena continued. “I meet him at Haven. I didn’t think I would see him there but he saw me and well you know the rest.”
“How did he know it was you? Aren’t you supposed to wear a mask?”
“I do but I also don’t cover myself up. James has only seen me in a mask that’s why he was able to recognize me. And then my eyes.” She blushed. “James and I just know each other alright?”
“Speaking of knowing people look who it is.” Emily leaned over. “I don’t care how much of an ass he is Brad is so damn fine.”
Elena laughed which caused Brad’s head to jerk up and his eyes fell on hers. He looked surprised then his eyes darkened and he looked angry though Elena could think for the life of her why he would be mad at her.
Something stirred behind his eyes and Elena felt a pull to him that she had never felt before. Something about his green eyes flickered in her memory but she ignored it. Brad continued to stare at her till people walked past and he looked away.
Turning back to Emily she realized her friend had been talking. “I’m sorry but what did you say?”
“I asked if you were ok. You seem really out of it.” Emily’s eyes deepened with worry. “In fact you haven’t seemed normal since the whole thing with Thomas. Is he really that bad?”
“No,” Elena replied. “Being with someone because you’re forced to be with sucks.” She leaned back in her seat. “Thomas is good, he’s just not for me and there’s nothing I can do about it.” Glancing over she saw Brad was gone and wondered what happened with him just a few seconds ago.
“Well let’s just be glad no one knew who you were last night. Think about if your mother found out this was you.” Emily picked up the magazine. “She would kill you that’s for sure.”
“Nah she wants me to marry Thomas too much,” Elena joked back. “Well hey I have to go. Thomas is expecting me so I have to run but we can talk more later. Bye.”
Emily nodded. “Alright try and have fun.” She hugged her friend and left.
Sighing Elena got in her car and the driver drove her over to the Hathern’s house. It was on the other side of town but thankfully the drive wasn’t very long. When they arrived the driver opened the door and she went up to the house.
“Miss Vandus please come in,” said the doorman as he opened the door for her. “May I take your coat?”
“Oh yes thank you.” Elena slid off her coat and handed it to the man. “Do you know if Thomas will be long?”
“No Ma’am the young master will be along soon,” he replied.
“Elena what a pleasant surprise,” said a woman walking into the forum. She was dressed in simple black dress with her brown hair up.
