The sky was black as Brad and Elena made their way to the small church. Neither one had wanted to come but they couldn’t, their childhood had meant too much for them to skip this.
Elena clung to Brad. She was scared she would lose him at any moment now. He had been released from the hospital a few days ago but she had been so close to losing him she couldn’t bare it.
No one spoke as they entered. There was barely anyone there, just the Hatherns, Vanduss and a few others. The coffin was at the front and Brad led them up the ally to the black coffin.
“I never wanted anything like this to happen,” Brad started. “No matter what you were always my younger brother and I should have watched over you better but the moment you tried to kill the woman I loved you were no longer my brother. I would have forgiven you for anything else but not this and for your actions I hope you burn in hell.”
Elena gave him a small smile and they went to go sit down. She didn’t want to say any goodbyes to Thomas, she already had and she would never change her words. Every fiber of her body hated him. He was a monsters that would for forever burn.
The funeral was quick. No one wanted to be there and they only did it for the family or for the fact that even though he was a terrible person and deserved to burn in hell no one deserved to just be buried.
It was raining outside as they went to bury the body. Everything about the day was sad and depressing. Elena wondered what happen to the boy she once knew. She had no idea who the monster he had turned into was.
“I would like to thank everyone for coming,” the priest started. “We all know what Thomas did was a terrible thing and he will be judged by the eyes of God but it is our job as humans to pray that he goes to Heaven because forever in Hell is the worst thing that could possible happen to a person.”
“He deserves it though,” Brad muttered.
Elena squeezed his hand. “Let’s just get through this and we’ll never have to look back at this again.”
They started to lower the coffin and Mrs. Hathern broke down into tears. Brad couldn’t understand why his mother still felt anything towards Thomas but Elena leaned over and hugged her. “Come on. He wouldn’t want you to cry. I know Thomas would never want to cause you pain.”
Mrs. Hathern nodded and laid her head on Elena’s shoulder. “You’re such a sweet girl.”
“That’s because I had a loving second mother.”
The priest finished and slowly everyone trickled away till Brad was the only one left. Elena had gone with Mrs. Hathern and looked back. She watched as he pulled something out of his pocket and threw it into the grave. He turned and caught her gaze. He paused for a moment but went to catch up with her.
“This is now behind us, the only thing that matters is the future.” He wrapped his arm around her and kissed her head. “Nothing else can hurt us.”
After the funeral life mostly went back to the way it was. Between the release of her clothing line and planning the wedding Elena was always busy but she was happy about that. Her mind staid focused so she didn’t think about what happened with Thomas. While she was in the hospital she had only thought of Brad but now Thomas’s lifeless face haunted her dreams.
“You ready?” Micah asked. He was tapping his foot and Elena could tell he was nervous.
“Micah you aren’t possibly nervous are you?” she teased. “Because I know this is going to go really well and we’ll soon be the new face of fashion.”
Micah rolled his eyes. “You’re already the face of fashion,” he said sarcastically.
She laughed. “Exactly so we have nothing to worry about. Just in the past few months people have already been trying to copy me and now they’ll have all the access they’ll need.”
“Miss Vandus we’re ready,” Julie said as she poked her head in the office. Elena had hired Julie and a few other girls to help run the shop.
“Very good. Open the doors and let’s see how this goes.” She smiled over at Micah. “Its now or never.”
And it was now. As soon as the door opened girls flooded in to buy everything they could get their hands on. Elena leaned back and watched as the girls went crazy. For the last couple of weeks Elena’s cloths had been on all the top runways and taking over the fashion world.
“This place is packed,” Brad said as he made his way to her.
Elena smiled. “That was the main focuses, get people in.”
“Well you’ve done it. I just heard your other shops are just as popular.” He wrapped his arm around her waist. “Way to go baby.”
After an hour they closed the shop and headed out to celebrate. Nicole hugged Elena once they reached the restaurant. “That was amazing. Even in Paris the clothes don’t sell out that quickly. You really are setting a new level for fashion.”
“Thank you,” she replied. “Oh Nicole this is Brad, Brad this is Nicole.” Elena had wanted to introduce them long ago but due to everything that had happened she hadn’t had a chance.
“Nicole?” Henry asked shocked. “Is that you?”
She turned and her smile fell when she saw Elizabeth. “Well if it isn’t the devil herself? Who let the trash in?”
Elizabeth scowled. “Trash? Who are you calling trash you little slut?” She turned to Henry. “What the hell is she doing here?”
Henry sighed. “If Elena wants to find her biological mother then she has every right. Besides I’m sure Nicole has been a major help with Elena’s line.”
“No.” Nicole’s accent was thick. “Elena is smart enough to do everything. I’ve barely helped at all.” She leaned over to Elena. “Now I remember why I like Paris so much more than here.”
“Why’s that?”
“The gold digging whore isn’t there.” Nicole snickered and skipped off.
“Now I see where you get your personality,” Brad joked. “You two are the same.”
Elena rolled her eyes. “Worried now that’s there’s two of us?” she teased back.
“You have no idea.” He kissed her temple, pulling her close before their hostess led them to their table.
