Hi everyone this story has been inspired by one of my favorite book series 'The Morganville Vampires' by Rachel Caine and also the great legend of 'The Blair Witch'. Love them both!
Little song on the side 'Diddy-Dirty Money-Coming Home ft.Skylar Grey' just thought it fits, but don't listen if you hate the song ;)

Chapter 1- Starting Over
I'm going to miss you soon to be old room. I've nearly finished packing and not looking forward to tomorrow morning. I really didn't want to move. Everything was working out perfectly. I was getting great results in school, I was at the top of the popularity ladder something that had taken me years to achieve and I even had a boyfriend. Sure he wasn't perfect, but he was exciting and that was all I needed.
Then dad got a new job so we decided to move miles away. I hadn't heard much about our soon to be home only that it was big and old. An antique we were lucky to have was what my parents had called it. But I didn't want some old historic house. I wanted a home. This house, my house. A place where I was surrounded by areas and people I knew.
"Jinx are you finished yet?" Mum suddenly shouted up the stairs.
"Yes mum I'm coming down!" I replied screaming my lungs out. That's me. Jinx. I'm actually called Jennifer, but everyone calls me Jinx. I was told my granddad called me it when I was tiny and it sort of just stuck. Who nicknames a kid Jinx? I never understood why my granddad called me it. I remember my sister saying that it was because wherever I went trouble followed.
It was meant to be a joke, however I didn't find it funny. In the dictionary it says the definition is for a person that brings bad luck. They used to call a lot of suspected witches that. Because they casted evil spells. Well who knows what runs through my granddads head? People get a little cranky when they're old and granddad is one of the crankiest people I know!
I sank back into my bed, but the thrust of the mattress sent me flying to the floor. Falling ungracefully onto my bum I heard mum shout again. I hauled myself up rubbing my poor back and walked over to my bedroom door and tried to open it. But something was jamming the door.
I pulled again. It still wouldn't open there was just a very slim gap for me to squeeze through. Thankfully my body slipped through finely. All those hard torturous yoga days did pay off. I looked at my door from the other side and gently pushed it. The door opened easily. My foot stepped on something. I looked down to see a small doll under my foot.
I bent down to pick it up and it felt like sandpaper under the gentle touch of my fingers. I examined it top to toe, but when I turned it around I flinched. It looked creepy. Its eyes were rusty and yellow, the fabric was ratty and smelt like it was decomposing the pottery of its face was grimy. But it just...scared me. I couldn't whip my eyes away from it and I jumped frantically when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I whipped around to see my sister pulling a smug grin.
"Blaze! You frightened the hell out of me!" I squeaked trying to catch my breath. I had the unpleasant experience of watching her emerald green eyes become humoured. She tilted her flawless face up to the ceiling and laughed.
Her mane of golden blonde hair tumbling behind her, she looked like a Greek goddess and she knew it. My perfect older sister eighteen years old and had the whole football team fighting over her when she was in secondary school. She was in college now, had a perfect boyfriend with a perfect course and a perfect lifestyle. Along with every other perfect thing about her. Whatever I'm jealous who wouldn't be?
"So this is really what scared you?" she laughed taking the creepy doll from me. She dangled it from her long lean fingers and looked at it with a comical gaze in her eyes. "Just take it" I spat. I ran down the stairs radiating energy, into the kitchen where mum was frantically running around trying to make sure everything was packed. "Um you wanted me?" I asked faintly doing my best not to scare her.
"Ah yes can you do a run about the house and make sure we haven't left anything?" she asked me not looking up from running around the kitchen. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun and her face was red from running about.
"Mum why don't you sit down? You've been working nonstop all day" I offered. She simply glanced up "That's the only way we can get things done in this family" she laughed. "Yeah well it's your lucky day, your bright generous daughter Jinx is here, move over I'll help you wash the units" I said softly.
"What would I do without you?" she laughed softly. Not much probably. Dad was always working; Blaze was either at college or planning on which boy she was going to screw next...and Ollie well no one knew where he was. On the run I guess.
But I couldn't think about that at the moment; this new house was going to be a brand new start for all of us. Away from...what that thing did. My mind was always like this. Waffling in random directions all the time it usually happened when I didn't have to talk. But it gave me time to think. I scrubbed inside the kitchen unit harder. The door bell rang.
"Blaze will you get that?" I shouted from the kitchen.
"Shut up brat I'm trying to do my hair!" she replied from upstairs. I sighed. Then I got up to get the door. Walking very swiftly and smoothly. Through the glazed glass I could see a male figure. I opened the door carefully, putting the latch on not knowing what to expect. Then the relief flooded. It was just a delivery guy holding a box.
"Jennifer Dallas?" he asked me looking up and down a clipboard he was holding in the other hand. I nodded and he handed me the package. He also handed me the clipboard. I noticed him staring at the chain over the little gap in the door, then realised I had left the latch on. I took it off and opened the door wide.
"Sign here please" he said softly. I had to admit I kind of liked this guy. Drop dead gorgeous, bleach blonde hair, eyes you could drown in and all. But way out of my league. I looked at the top of the clipboard to see the Amazon logo. I smiled. My books were finally here, I had thought maybe they would come too late once we had moved out. After I quickly signed I handed back the clipboard to the guy.
"Thanks" I smiled.
"No problem" he said slightly raising the cap on his head. Suddenly I felt embarrassed. I was stood her with ruffled hair and the worlds crappest outfit. I could feel myself blushing and knew it was time to close the door. Slowly shutting it I said bye to the guy who was outside, but he stopped the door with his foot.
"Um my name is Darren" he said.
"Jennifer, but people call me Jinx" I laughed slightly.
"That's a nice name" he smiled, "see you Jinx" he said walking away back to the delivery van. But he wouldn't. I sighed. This town would probably never see me again. Let alone that guy. Finally I shut the door tightly and looked down at the box. I excitedly opened it and hugged the contents.
"Dork" Blaze whispered whilst walking past. Well that's good vocabulary coming from someone who'd never read a book. Yeah call me a nerd, but I love reading. Romance is my favourite. But I'll read just about anything. Growing up wasn't easy for me; it was the first couple of glorious years. Then everything changed. I hoped so much that this new place would be better. Maybe we could all move on and forget? But deep down inside of me I knew I never would.
I snapped out of it. Someone was prodding me. It was as expected Blaze, she was glaring at me evilly. I gave a slightly innocent look. "Jinx will you move please I've asked you like," she counted with her fingers,"Six times!" Blaze said with an annoyed and slightly frustrated tone.
Before I had the chance to say sorry she shoved past me to get at the door. That left me standing in the hallway of our soon to be old house looking lost. It didn't feel like home anymore. Too empty, too lonely. It made my stomach churn in sadness.
