-Pluck up the courage and accept it-

"So what do I call her?" I whispered to Ash as we walked through the door to English. He was still dragging me along as if I were in a body bag.

"Mrs Howard" he whispered back. The English room was a lot more put together then I expected. It looked like a normal classroom, but the work was presented on the walls like graffiti. I had to admit it looked freaking awesome. I would have thought it was an art display, but when you looked closer you could see it was about famous poems such as 'The Lady of Shalott' and 'The Pied Piper of Hamlin'.

I felt the other students go silent as I entered the room. I was glad I had Ash because otherwise I would have blushed under the gazes. A young red haired woman was stood at the front with her hands together as if she were about to give a lecture. She had a V- neck- blouse unbuttoned three from the top and a high black skirt on. She smiled as I approached. She reminded me slightly of Blaze, but without the snide and rudeness. It's just that she didn't look old enough to be a teacher. And Ash said she was called Mrs Howard, which meant she was married. I found it extremely hard to believe.

"Jinx is it not?" she asked her smile beaming.

"Um yes miss" I answered trying to stop my voice from stuttering or shaking. I succeeded only slightly.

"Don't look so frightened, they won't bite" she laughed lightly. Sniggering came from across the classroom. I didn't really get how it was so funny. "Why don't you go and take a seat over there, next to Ash and Millie" she said in a friendly tone pointing to the back of the class. There were two empty seats beside a girl with heavy Goth make up. I breathed a little more, because at least I knew the person I was sitting next to. Ash dropped my arm and gestured for me to follow him.

I walked past the stares and slid into the seat I had been appointed. Then I took out a pencil case and the planner I'd been given. The gazes returned to the front of the class again and I started to doodle in my notebook. I was great at multitasking. I drew love hearts and wrote down some of my favourite song lyrics in different and cool styles.

"Jinx why do you think Wilfred Owen chose to write in such a violent and bloody way for his poems?" Mrs Howard asked. I dropped my pen gently and felt many eyes turn to look at me. Turn to look at the new girl and see what she says under pressure. I kept my voice in control and my face expression bright.

"Wilfred Owen used to be a soldier. I mean well some of the things on the battle field must have shaken him up a little. I think it definitely helped that he was actually there to experience it. Basically it must have just been like telling the story again, but in literature" I answered a matter of factly. Mrs Howard looked slightly surprised, but her smile beamed.

"How come this girl walks in here at the age of sixteen and knows more than most of you?" she laughed. I felt myself go red in embarrassment. It was a compliment, but that just happened anyway.

I noticed a pair of eyes staring at my notebook it particular. I turned to the stare that bored into my side at Millie the girl wearing heavy Goth make up. Her eyes looked as if they were popping out of the sockets because she had that much eye shadow and eyeliner on. It reminded me of Emily the Strange. She was smiling.

"My Chemical Romance, see you like their songs" she pointed out looking at the lyrics in my notebook.

"Yeah, they're pretty great actually" I added.
