The Ash People had been at the reef for almost three months now, and everything had been going smoothly.
For the most part.
"I told you, multiple times, Roìlona! This is not our home so quit acting like it is!" Kyena yelled as he paced back and forth their mauri. "Our kids don't need to learn these people's ways!"
"They are allowing us to stay here, Kyena! We should do the simple tasks we are asked of! It's been three months and you won't allow them to learn!" Roìlona yelled at her mate as she held her hand on her stomach, which had gotten progressively bigger.
"Aröma and Tsìwal are perfectly fine with our skills, and not these Metakyina skills!"
They both stopped yelling when they heard a knocking on their mauri.
"I'm sorry to interrupt," Raya said from the doorway. "But the chief would appreciate it if you could both keep it down a notch."
Kyena shook his head and rushed over to her, causing a her to take a step back.
"This is my mauri, I will be as loud as I want to be!" He yelled in her face. "I don't need some knocked up teen telling me what to do!"
Raya flinched at his words and looked behind him at Roìlona.
"Kyena!" His mate yelled grabbing his arm, pulling him back. "That is Toruk Maktos daughter in law, do not speak to her like that!"
He yanked his arm out of her grasp and walked out of the mauri, bumping into Raya as he did so.
Roìlona was instantly at Raya's side. "I'm so sorry, I apologize for my mate."
Raya shook her head. "It's fine, just please get your mate under control." She said sternly before leaving the mauri.
——"It was awful, Tey." Raya said as she sat down on the sleeping mat. "He was acting like a child. Ignorant and selfish."
Neteyam chuckled at how cute she was. He liked when she was frustrated, he thought she looked adorable.
"You think this is funny?" She asked placing a hand on her stomach.
He shook his head. "No it's just adorable how you care so much."She rolled her eyes and started removing her jewelry. "He had no right to act that way, especially towards his pregnant mate."
Neteyam shrugged his shoulders as he walked to sit beside Raya.
He saw her rubbing her stomach with a discomforting look on her face.
"My love, are you okay?"
She nodded her head. "I think so?"He moved closer to her and placed a hand on her arm. He instantly let go of her arm when he felt how warm her skin was.
"Raya, you're burning up." He stood up and grabbed a bowl, dipped it in the water and grabbed a rag.
He started to run the damp cloth over her skin.
"Neteyam I'm fine." She said looking up at him.He shook his head. "I don't care, I'm making sure you're alright."
"Neteyam I promise I'm-" Before she could finish her sentence a sharp pain spread through her stomach."Raya? Breath for me, in and out."
"It hurts! Neteyam it hurts!" She yelled squeezing his arm as she dug her nails into his skin."I'll be right back I promise!" He rushed out of the mauri and saw someone walking by.
"You!" He yelled at the girl walking by and she turned to face him.
"Yes, is everything alright?" She asked seeing his panicked face."I need you to get the Tsahìk, please!" She nodded and took of running.
