Chapter Thirty One

Raya sat in her mauri pacing back and forth for what felt like hours. It took everything in her to act brave in front of Kyena and Roìlonia but the truth was, she was scared.

Neteyam was sitting with his hand on his forehead as he watched her pace.

"Teyam, their planning something horrible." Raya said all in one breath.
"I know, love."
"And if the Sky People find us? The clan, the twins-"

Neteyam stood up and put a hand on her cheek and she stopped talking.

"Listen. We're going to get through this together. They aren't going to touch our family." Neteyam brought her into a hug and she wrapped her arms around him tightly.

"Im just so scared."
Neteyam nodded his head. "Me too love, me too."

Raya pulled away and went back to pacing. She looked over at the sleeping babies and a tear rolled down her cheek.

She quickly wiped it away before Neteyam could see it but it was too late, he'd already seen she was crying.

"My love it's going to be okay, I promise." Neteyam took a step closer to her and she nodded her head.

"I hope your right, Neteyam." She looked at him then back to her babies. "I just don't want to lose them." She looked back at Neteyam and he tilted his head.

He looked at his sleeping children and fear for his family flashed through his head.

He was scared for his family, and Raya could sense it. She could see by the look in his eyes that he was scared.

"Neteyam, we defeated them once we can do it again." Raya said softly as she took a step closer to him.

He let out a soft chuckle and put his hands on her shoulders. "Now look who's comforting who." He smiled and she rolled her eyes gently pushing him away.

"Ha ha you're very funny." She said sarcastically.
"Oh really?" Neteyam smirked at her and started tickling her.
"Neteyam! Stop! Quit that!" She laughed as she tried to get away from him. "You're gonna wake the kids!"

They laughed together for a few moments before they heard someone clearing their throat at the door.

Both of them stopped and saw Jake and Tonowari standing in the doorway.

Raya looked between the two and Jake motioned for Raya to step outside.

Neteyam started after her but Tonowari stopped him.

"Jake, is everything okay?" Raya asked once she stepped outside.
He didn't say anything and just looked at her.
She looked at Tonowari confused.

"Tonowari? What happened?" She asked again. Jake and Tonowari looked between eachother then back at Raya.

"Raya, we thought you should know we found a body out by the reef." Jake said calmly.

She just looked at him confused not knowing what to say.

"Raya. It was Ay'loik." Tonowari said stepping closer to her.

"W-what?" She stuttered as she looked at Jake searching for any signs it wasn't true. "That's impossible, he-" Jake stopped her by pulling her in for a hug.

"I'm so sorry." He said softly as he held her shaking body. "I'm really sorry."

She felt as though her world was shattered to pieces.

Her sister.
Her father.
And now her brother.

The brother she didn't even know she had until recently.
