Ch. 5 I Know

Katniss POV:

I finish applying my Nars deep red colored lipstick and take a deep breath. Today is the day I am going on a date with Foster. I wanted to say no to him but Peeta nodded and smiled which I thought was his way of saying yes. My train of thoughts are interrupted by a voice,

"Are you ready?" The person asks

I turn around to face Foster,

"Yeah." I say and straighten out my dress

"You look wonderful today." He compliments

"Not too bad yourself," I comment, both of us laughing a little

Foster leads me to a black Nissan, once we are both seated Foster starts the engine and we take off.

I stare out of the window awaiting for the place we're going, now that I think about it,

Where are we going?

Just when I am a about to open my mouth Foster stops his car,

"We're here." He grins

I hop out of the car to feast my eyes on a restaurant called 'Boggs' It doesn't look like a really fancy restaurant but it seems interesting.

'Boggs' is actually a burger place, right now Foster and I are having a conversation while eating our burgers.

"So you think 'we' could be together?" Foster suddenly asks me

"What do you mean?" I question

"Do you think we could work well in a relationship?" Repeats Foster

That lands me speechless for a while but I manage to respond.

"Sorry Foster but I have to say no, I really like someone else but I don't know it's so confusing." I sigh in mixed emotions

"I'm really so-" I get cut off

"No, I understand, I actually also have feelings for another girl." Admits Foster scratching the back of his neck

"Who?" I quiz

"Umm, I like Johanna." He says

I squeal,

"I am so getting you two together!" I say determined

"Calm down, it's not the end of the world." He chuckles

I carefully take my seat fixing my dress a little.

Foster and I unlock the dorm door to see Peeta and Delly making out. This finds me in a shocked state.

"Oh um your back." Peeta notices

"Yeah," Foster says awkwardly

An awkward silent finds its way to our room until I decide to break it,

"Hi!" I say purposeless

My voice seemed so cheery and peppy by inside I was crushing when I saw a glimpse of Delly and Peeta kissing. It's like something hit you straight in the heart, I actually think it hurts more than if someone shoots you with a gun and the bullet aims at your heart.

"Umm well I gotta go..." Foster excuses himself

All of us just stand here awkwardly as Foster shuts the door. A silence is broken by Delly's phone ringing,

"Hello?" She answers

She nods,

"I have to go now." She stands up and heads out

That leaves Peeta and I here, totally not awkward. (note the sarcasm.)

"Why did you kiss Delly?" I blurt which makes me regret what I just said

Peeta shifts a little and sighs,

"I didn't actually want you to go out with Foster but now your with him I got together with Delly again, I really miss you." Admits Peeta

"Why did you get together with Delly, why didn't you just wait?" I croak on the verge of tears

"I never thought I would get you back." He looks down

"Well, turns out Foster likes Johanna." I try to signal him that Foster and I are not together

"Wait..." He is starting to figure out what I just said

"Yeah, I'm not with Foster." I sigh

He groans in frustration.

"Why does it always have to be wrong timing?" I let my tears flow

"Katniss don't cry please." Pleads Peeta

I try to, but I just can't.

He begins to wipe my tears with his thumb.

"I just want to be with you." I sniffle

"I know Kat, me too." Sighs Peeta

I stand up and wipe my last tears I shredded, then I walk away but someone grabs my arm spins me around and crashes their lips onto mine. I know he belongs to Delly so I pull away, knowing this is wrong.

Peeta and I are now face to face. His lips form into a frown,

"We can get through this Katniss. I love you." He says full of determination while looking straight at my eyes

"I know." I sigh and walk away
