Ch. 4 Thoughts

Third Person:

Peeta wakes up and finds that his surroundings are silent. Everybody else is still sound asleep.

He walks to the other room to check if Katniss and Foster are still sound asleep. There he finds Katniss still sleeping on the lower bunk. He stares at her for what seems like hours, taking in every detail, her eyes that seem so beautiful even when their closed. Her mouth, pink and plump that gives Peeta this temptation to kiss them. To his surprise he finds a pair of arms wrapped around her, a pang of jealousy hits him like a mallet. Foster has his arms wrapped around Katniss.

This is where Peeta notices that he lost his chance of getting the girl of his dreams, the girl he loved since the start of elementary. Peeta knows that he belongs to Delly. He regretted that he made a choice that he thought was the right one, picking Delly over Katniss.

The sound of footsteps catch his attention.

"Good Morning Peeta." Delly says walking to where he is

"Morning." Peeta mumbles

Peeta didn't reply with 'Good Morning' or anything like that because to him, this wasn't a very good morning. He had to get out of this relationship before its too late. It might be late because Foster might have feelings for Katniss too. Peeta is afraid that Foster might make a move and that leaves Peeta too late, too late to get the girl of his dreams...

Katniss POV:

I wake up to see a blur of things, so I rub my eyes to get a better look. I feel a pair of arms wrap around me, I turn around to see Foster still sound asleep. Everything form last night floods my brain. I remember when Foster woke me up from my nightmare and I asked him to stay. I also remember about what happened with me and Peeta, I loved him for what felt like forever but someone had to step on it and break it in two. Who knew love could be full of heartbreak? The time when Peeta said that we're just best friends stuck in my mind,

I was only, and will always be in the friend zone.

At least we're best friends, that's better than nothing. After a while of thinking I manage to get out of bed but during the process I wake Foster up,

"Morning." He says in a morning voice

"Morning." I reply and hop out of bed

All of us are in the park right now. Everyone agreed to come, besides what's better than fresh air. I observe my surroundings, Foster is getting ice cream while Delly and Peeta are talking on a bench. They seem to be into a deep conversation because Delly's face is very serious. A guy comes walking to Delly and hugs her, he has light brown hair and icy blue eyes. I wonder who he is? As I am walking on the pavement I bump into someone accidentally,

"Sorry." I apologize

"That's okay," A girl responds

I look up to see a girl with red hair and emerald green eyes.

"Hi I'm Annie." She introduces

"Katniss." I say while smiling

She seems like a nice person. Before you know it, Annie and I are sitting on a park bench talking about everything and anything. Turns out her and her friends go to the same college at me.

"Let me introduce you to my friends." She takes my hand and drags me somewhere

Annie stops, I am looking at two people which I assume is Annie's friends.

"Guys this is Katniss, Katniss this is Finnick and Johanna, she goes to the same school as us." States Annie

I get a lot of 'hi' and 'hey'

"Want a sugar cube?" Finnick offers showing off his dimples

I give him a weird look.

"Nope, I wouldn't want my teeth to fall off." I decline

"Ignore this dimwit, he's usually like this." Johanna tells me

All of us talk and talk, I get to know all of them more and more. Finnick and Annie are dating and Johanna is a rebellious kind of person.

"I better get going, my dorm mates might be wondering where I am." I tell them standing up

"Why don't you introduce them to us Kitty?" Finnick says

"If you dare call me Kitty again I will hit you where the sun doesn't shine." I tell him fiercely

"Kitty got claws," Says Finnick

All of us chuckle.

I introduced Annie, Finnick and Johanna to Foster, Peeta and Delly already, turns out we all get along. All of us have a group chat now.

Currently, Peeta and I are alone while Foster and Delly are out somewhere. I walk into Peeta's room to see if he wants to do something while the others are away. I find him with his hands in his hair, something must be wrong.

"What's wrong?" I ask sitting next to him on his bed

"Delly, she dumped me." Says Peeta

Inside I feel so happy but I try not to show it,

"What happened?" I question curiously

"Well, she wanted to talk so I listened, she said that she found someone else, I said it was fine but actually wasn't. We agreed that we still are friends but I don't know what to do now." He explained

"Sometimes certain people are not meant to be." I tell him without trying to tell him that I like him

"So you mean that she wasn't right for me?" Peeta says noticing what I was trying to say

I nod,

He takes a strand of my hair and places it on the back of my ear, Peeta then starts to lean in until the space between us is gets smaller. All of a sudden, Foster unlocks the door, Peeta and I stop what we're doing and try to act normal.

"Katniss can I ask you something?" Foster says

"Ok..."

"Would you go on a date with me?" He questions

Peeta POV:

I just sit here waiting for Katniss's respond.

She looks at me and I smile at her nodding, why did I do that, my mind spoke louder than my heart. Now Katniss might think that I want her to go on a date with Foster. Seems like Katniss thought the same thing. She just replies with one simple word that breaks my heart and crushes it into pieces. I guess I was too late.

"Yes." Katniss breathes

Uh oh, now Peeta is the one who has a broken heart. I guess Peeta lost his chance, or did he? I hope you guys have a nice day!

My thoughts are stars I can't fathom into constellations. ✨
