I was shocked for a half second before I burst out laughing. I was laughing so hard that I felt a bad cramp coming. What was this? Some kind of bad sitcom that annoying girls watch and live by?
When I finally calmed down, I wiped a tear from my eye and stared at her with a smirk. “You’ve got to be shitting me, Emma.”
She looked like she would throw a car at me if she could… crazy bitch. “It’s not funny. You like my boyfriend and to be honest, you need to back off.”
I narrowed my eyes at her. “I’m his best friend. You’re some girl he just started dating. Check your privilege.”
She leaned against the wall, but even like that she still acted like she was bigger and better than me. “I’ve heard things about you Melody. I know I’m a year younger, but I still have a lot of Senior friends. You used to be so nice… calm, too. That was back when you were dating Blake. But since then you’ve been crazy just like you were when I was a freshman. People talk about you all the time. The guys, not so much the girls. You think you’re so nice and innocent, but you’re not. You’re just a playing along with their little games and now you’re trying to get Noah in on it, and trust me. He has me now, so he doesn’t need you.”
I stared at her in disbelief before getting right in front of her while fuming. “Listen here. You can’t tell me what to do. Noah ditched you last night to be with me. What does that say about our friendship? I’m not staying away from Noah. I don’t know what shit you’re on, but it’s obviously affected your judgment because there’s nothing going on between Noah and I, and I’m going to tell him now about how much of a crazy bitch you are. Get your head out of your fucking ass and learn that everything doesn’t revolve around you.”
With another glare, I began to stalk down the hallway until her voice called me back.
“Maybe I’ll go to my brother about this,” she called out to me.
I scoffed and turned around, crossing my arms over my chest. “Really? Your family are also raging psychopaths?”
She gave me a smug look. “No. My brother is Malcolm Peterson. You know, the guy you ditched in prison as you had a hand in killing that woman?”
Reality came pounding into me and I felt like I was going to black out for a moment. I stared at Emma, taking in her features as I compared them to Malcolm’s. There weren’t much similarities, but they were definitely there. The same eyes and nose were the most prominent ones. How had I not realized it before? Peterson was a semi-common last name, but Emma was so quiet, reserved compared to her brother.
“Don’t bring that into this,” I said through clenched teeth.
“It’s a low blow, isn’t it, Melody?” She chuckled under her breath. “Of course you got out of it, but I still know the truth. Malcolm told me all about you, Noah, and his little adventure that night. He didn’t tell the cops about your part in it, though. He’s a nice guy. I also did some research on it. The woman killed was named Penny Williams. You know, Samuel’s mother.” She studied my face and then her grin widened. “Oh, but you already knew that, didn’t you? This makes this so much more fun!”
I went over to her and pushed her against the wall. She didn’t look scared or anything, just amused. “What do you want with me?”
“I told you, I want you to stay away from Noah.”
