"We're here," Jasmin breathed. She and Winter stood behind the walls in front of the large stronghold, keeping out of sight from the guards that guarded the palace.

"I know that. I've come here before with Qibli, alright?" Winter hissed. Jasmin felt a shiver run down her spine as she saw dried streaks of blood on the palace walls, where Burn's dead enemies had their heads hung as decoration. Her mind flashed back to the dark, damp stone walls of Wasp's prison, splattered with her own blood.

"This is Thorn's palace now," Winter reminded her. He looked at her sideways, as though he knew what she was thinking about. "She's a nice queen."

"Yeah." She's the reason I even got to Jade Mountain and ended up in Wasp's torture room. But hey, Winter was also part of it.

"How are we going to get past the guards?" Winter breathed, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"How many?" Jasmin asked.

"Only two. Both holding spears."

A single, deadly spear came to Jasmin's mind, its tip soaked in her blood.

"I'm in the Scorpion Den," She muttered to herself. "I'm in no immediate danger." The hybrid turned to Winter. "Right. Here's what we do. You follow me without saying a thing, alright? I'll handle everything."

Jasmin marched up to the entrance, her cloak swishing after her. Winter hurried to match her pace. One of the guards, which she recognized as Meerkat, noticed them walking towards him.

"Stop right there," He ordered. "No one enters the queen's palace."

"Remember me?" Jasmin asked, ignoring him. "You know, goldenish-yellow SandWing dragonet? A couple of months ago?"

A look of recognition passed Meerkat's face, and was almost immediately replaced with a look of fury and terror. "You!"

"Yes, me," Jasmin said coolly. "Try remembering the part where I almost killed you. Do you want to stop me?"

Meerkat opened his mouth, then closed it again.

"What?" The second guard, who was an older female, grunted. "Just block them. Or kill them. I'm sure we can persuade Her Majesty that we've done nothing wrong."

"Oh, I'd like to see you try." Jasmin smirked under her hood. "I can snap both of your pathetic necks in two seconds flat. Now, I want you to let me and my companion in. I'm sure Queen Thorn will be glad to see us."

"Hm. We'll accompany you there," The female SandWing decided. "Follow us."
