A flash of light gleamed from somewhere in Jasmin's prison cell. A surprise, since light didn't come into the dungeon at all. She'd been getting weak and pale from lack of sunlight, and she wished she was back at the rainforest more than ever.

Jasmin knew that the light couldn't be good news, though, if Wasp was the one carrying the light.

Which, of course, she was. She was holding up a dozen lamps lit with flamesilk, made with thin, fragile glass.

"Hybrid. I'm going to be quick and easy today," The HiveWing queen snarled. "Who are your parents?"

"I don't know." Jasmin lifted her head, the lie slipping out of her mouth easily. "They abandoned me when I was an egg."

"Liar." Wasp slapped her talon across the hybrid's face, hard. Jasmin felt pain burn up her snout. "I know everything going on here. No SilkWing can abandon her eggs, because we see everything."

"She was killed by the HiveWings, five years ago." Jasmin glared up at Wasp coldly. "You ordered your dragons to kill her, remember?"

"No," She said coldly. "I didn't have any SilkWings killed five years ago. What are you?"

"A SilkWing-LeafWing hybrid, as I'm telling you now," Jasmin spat. "Or are you too deaf to hear my words?"

A look of fury crossed the queen's face, and she lifted up a lamp. "I hope you'll remember this forever."

She crashed it down, her mouth twisted up into a cruel smile. Jasmin's mouth gaped open into a soundless cry of agony as sharp glass pierced through her scales, her skin pricking with blood. Flaming-hot silk burned her entire body, and she let out a sharp yelp.

She covered her body with her wings as Wasp slammed lamp after lamp down onto her, until her wings finally flopped to the ground, burning with pain.

"Who are your parents?" Wasp hissed.

"Nobody," Jasmin gasped desperately, trying to get air into her melting lungs. "Nobody you'll ever know."

Wasp left her, spitting at her in disgust. "I'll see you a few hours after."

She was engulfed by the shadows, leaving Jasmin trembling with pain, agony, and terror.
