Cupid Next Door [ YEONJI ]

Chapter Une

'Walking noises.'

A door kept on opening and closing with a creak.

"Ugh..." Yeonjun opened his eyes after being awakened by the interminable noises from outside.

"Who is demolishing their apartment at 8 am?" He asked with a grumpy yet sleepy voice.

Yeonjun got out of bed and slid his feet into the white bunny slippers. He walked lazily to his apartment front door and opened it, the noise only intensifying.

Then he saw her. Her long, brown hair tied into a ponytail, her sharp, cat-like eyes looking at the floor while she was carrying three boxes that were barely holding onto each other.

She put the boxes down and stretched her back to release the pain caused by the weight. She reached to open her door once again, when she saw someone with the corner of her eye. She turned her head to the left and looked at the stranger with surprise.

"Uh..." The tall girl said, but that was all she managed to say before Yeonjun slammed the door and backed away from it slowly.

"Who... Who is she?" He murmured.

He got closer to the door and looked through the peephole, but what he didn't expect was an eye staring at him intensely from the other side.

"Agh!" Yeonjun let out a scream and backed away from the eye. He opened the door carefully and he wasn't surprised to see the mysterious girl sitting there, shocked.

"Hey! What were you doing just now looking through the peephole in my apartment?" His voice was slightly shaky, but he didn't know why.

"Uhm... You were looking at me first in the hallway!" She defended herself. "Me?" Yeonjun asked, shocked at her response. "Yeah, you!" She responded.

Silence. Yeonjun didn't know what to say anymore since he knew she was right. He cleared his throat and said in a much calmer voice: "Well, I guess you're right. Goodbye now!" He tried to close the door, but the girl acted sharp and put her foot in the way just before it could close.

Yeonjun was a bit taken aback, so he opened the door again. "Do you mind?" He said and pointed at her foot. "Yeah, I do mind. What's your name?" She asked casually. For a second, Yeonjun forgot his own name, making the girl look at him confused.

"Oh... Uh, I'm Choi Yeonjun." He said after he remembered what was going on. "Well, Choi Yeonjun, from now on, we will be neighbors," She smiled slyly and took her foot away from the door frame. "My name is Hwang Yeji." The mysterious girl finally revealed her name, as she was closing Yeonjun's apartment door without him noticing.

After the door was completely shut, he snapped back to reality and sighed briefly. "What a strange girl. Hwang Yeji..." Her name left a sweet yet sour taste in his mouth, like sour cherries.

After what happened, Yeonjun went to get ready for his shift at the supermarket that would start in one hour. "Ugh... I hate this job!" He exclaimed as he was washing his face.
