The woman closed the door of the boys dorm room. Finally the orphanage was silent and calm. She let out a sigh as she walked to the front door to get some fresh air after the day.
Two boys had had a fight over some chocolate, which ended with a few scars and shouts. A little girl had had an accident with a chair, the newest boy was missing his parents, and there was a cold spreading around.
She stepped outside and set down on the stair.
She took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a second to clear her head. Her breath was visible due to the fact, that it was the last day of October.
Suddenly she heard soft crying not far away. She stood up slowly while taking a flashlamp out of the pocket of her coat.
'Hello! Whose there?' she asked, looking around in the dark.
She tried to follow the sound as she started to walk down the street. A few seconds later she found a little red headed girl standing on the middle of the road.
She looked around and then knelt down in front of the child.
'Hey! What are you doing here alone darling?' asked her calmly.
'Getting away' the child said crying silently.
'From where?'
She was looking concerned as she looked into the child's face.
The girl didn't answer. She only held on tighter to the plush owl she was hugging the whole time. The woman carefully lifted up her chin. The little one's hair fell out of her face and she saw a scar... a weirdly specific scar on her face.
'Where are your parents sweetheart?' tried to get some answer from the kid.
'Nowhere' she said.
The governess thought for a second then tried again.
'My name is Sarah. Can you tell me yours?'
She was worried. Could she get her name at least?
'Emilla Potter'
Sarah got the answer.
'Well, Emilla, come with me. We get you some tea and a blanket' she said kindly holding out her hand to the girl to take it.
Emilla held onto the governess, and they went inside the orphanage.
