The next day was finally halloween which meant some students (khm...Fred and George) wanted to play a few pranks on everyone. Mostly holiday themed, such as if you eat a certain thing from their baskets - that day it meant muffins - you eather get screamed on by the meal or it turns into a carved pumpkin, which laughed horribly loud. After a while most of the students started to get away from the twins as fast as possible.
Evelynn was in the library until lunch. She was alone this time, Katie had to go for quidditch practice. She loved the team but she complained a bit about it.
- I mean... - she started a week ago after a longer session - Wood isn't just likes quidditch... He is... Obsessed! - she was shivering, cause she was still wet after a ridiculously long practice session in the rain.
Rachel had to go to detention after swearing a bit too much on Herbology, after she saw a mandrake's root.
She finished her homeworks and started to read new spells. After a while she went to have lunch where she accidently eat one of the remained muffins the Weasley twins left out on the tables. The scream was louder than the others before, thanks to the acoustics of the Great Hall.
After lunch Rachel and her finally had time to play anything at all. They played gobstones a bit. The evening had a wonderful feast, and everybody was looking forward to it. Finally the time came. The Great Hall had tons of carved pumpkins floating under the magical ceiling. The food appeared from thin air, just like after the sorting ceremony. They ate everything. Caramelized apples, pudding, pumpkin pie... et cetera. As Rachel and Evelynn were planning their usual evening practice routine when the Great Hall's doors flew open. Professor Quirrel shouted as loud as he could.
- ...TROOOLL IN THE DUNGEONS!!! THERES A TROLL IN THE DUNGEON!!! - he was panthing and he was so scared, he didn't even stutter. - I thought you should know... - he added as he stopped in the room and fell over, uncontious. All the students were in panic. Lots of them was shouting and screaming, Evelynn was so scared she couldn't move for a few seconds.
- SILENCE!
The most understandable shouting came from no other than the principal, Albus Dumbledore himself. Everybody got quiet.
- All of you, go to your dormitories, listen to your prefects! - the Head Master ordered quickly - The teachers and I will go down to the dungeon.
Anywhere she looked were terrified glares and anxious talks. The professors quickly left to go downstairs. Snape left on another door. Evelynn felt confused by that. She would surely ask him on another duelling session. Sarah and Derek started to gather the Hufflepuffs together, with some help from the six years prefects and the Head Boy and Head Girl. Sarah with the Head girl and with the six year prefect boy were in the front, the others with Derek were the groups end. After Gryffindor left through the door the Hufflepuffs came close after them. They walked down the stairs after the others. As they took the last turn towards the Hufflepuff common room Evelynn realised something.
- Rae! - she grabbed the girls shoulder in panic.
- What? - she turned to her.
- Granger never came for dinner!
- So... she doesn't know about the troll! - she slowly got to the point. Obviously both of them thought that the girl was awfully annoying, but they had to get her out of the toilet. They wanted to go back but the very end of the group had Derek, the Head Girl and another prefect from the sixth years.
- We can't go anywhere... - Rachel sighed.
- Derek! - Evelynn shouted to him and went closer through the group. - A first year Gryffindor doesn't know about the troll! Her name is Hermione Granger! - she spluttered quickly. Derek's eyes widened after each word. - She was in the third floor bathroom. She never came for dinner.
Derek nodded and looked around the corridor. Then he started to run. He slipped but stayed on his feet.
- Professor! - he shouted - Professor McGonagall! - he ran towards her and looked back at Evelynn - Stay with them! - she pointed at her and she felt a hand pulling her robes not so gently and she was already in front of the Hufflepuff common room's opened door. A few seconds later Derek walked into the common room.
- They went up - he panthed as Evelynn and Rachel walked up to him. - Great job! - he smiled at the girl.
Just as he sat down on the couch a lound bang shook the whole school. The chandelier even started to swing a little.
Everybody started looking upwards. Some first years like Justin and Earnie sat closer to each other after letting Susan and Hanna among them. Evelynn was confused. A troll can shake the whole school, but to shake their common room like this, it should have been a few floors above them. If it was in the dungeons, then the chandelier should have fall off... This wasn't right... Like... the math wasn't mathing. She sat down on a pillow. Rachel was too stressed to sit down at the moment. Jess, Liv and Emma were sitting at their spot in the corner. Michael, Jack and Henry were sitting around the fireplace quietly talking about the whole incident. A few third years were standing close to the door talking about some lessons they had. They were trying to lighten up the mood. Evelynn started to listen around to calm down. The fire quietly crackled, the clock ticked, and a lot of student were murmuring around the common room.
Her eyes were closed and she was so tired she was half asleep. After fifteen minutes somebody opened the door. Professor McGonagall walked in with their Head of House. All of them shut up in a second.
- Mr. Wesson! - the trandfiguration professor said the name and Derek almost jumped up from the couch, were he was lying until this very moment.
- Yes, professor? - he asked with a bit of fear in his eyes. That was just the usual reaction to Minerva McGonagall calling out your name.
- Which student informed you about Miss Granger being alone on the third floor? - she asked.
- It was Evelynn Prince, professor! - he said it calming down a bit. Then he got tensed again. - What happened to the troll, professor? - he asked in the name of all Hufflepuff.
- The troll was taken out of the school, everything is alright - professor Sprout calmed down all of them, as she looked around on the scared faces. Everyone let out a sigh.
- Miss Prince, please come here - McGonagall looked at her. She got anxious by it, but slowly started to walk up to the teacher.
- Yes, professor? - she asked so quietly, it was barely audible.
- Don't be afraid - McGonagall smiled - I want to thank you, for remembering Miss Granger. You did what you had to. I would like to give you ten points for acting as the way a hufflepuff student should. And I have a question for you - she started and Evelynn calmed down. The girl looked at the professor curiously. - Could you help one of my Gryffindor's studying? Practice with him for once a week maybe? - she asked. Evelynn looked surprised.
- Sure professor! - she smiled kindly. - Who should I help?
- I don't know if you have met Mr. Longbottom yet - she started. Evelynn shook her head. - You can meet him on Monday at 8 pm in my classroom.
Evelynn nodded and the professors walked out after saying a quick 'alright'.
The professors turned to the door and after saying good night to the students, they left the common room.
