Silence.
The clock's ticks feels like drums in the quiet room. She is lying on a bed. Everything is white. The sheets, the walls, the pillow. She is watching the ceiling. From the window a sunshine warmed up the walls in a wider line. The sun was rising.
The clock is ticking. It feels loud.
Her eyes feel sleepy. She just woke up, but she wants to go back to sleep. A woman walks into the room. She didn't realize that the girl is awake. When the woman wore green clothing. But something was on it. She didn't see it clearly. As the woman turned around she locked eyes with her.
- Emilla, you are awake! - she came closer. The girl on the bed would have pulled away, but there wasn't anywhere to go. And she didn't have the energy to go anywhere. The woman in lime-green robe slowed down. Then she sat next to the bed. - How do you feel? - she asked. The girl was watching her curiously. Who is this woman? She felt tired. She looked back at the ceiling. The sun wasn't as bright as before. Clouds covered it. The ceiling looked grey. She slowly sank back into a half-sleeping stage. She saw the woman watching her closely.
Isla picked up the witch's hand. It still had the rash, but it was better than a week ago. She woke up today, which meant they are on a good path. She washed her arms with phoenix tears to heal the rash. She picked up a tiny bottle and helped the girl drink the whole golden potion. Then she sat back. The girl's vivid red hair created a huge contrast with her pale skin. Close to her left ear she had a scar. The healer tried to heal it in, but somehow she couldn't. Maybe it wasn't a temporary scar, left by the sickness. She stood up and walked of the room.
Walking through the hallway she went up to the fourth floor. There she got the usual two cup of strengthening solution. She even got two cup of tea. Then the healer walked into the ward to the right and went to the end of it.
- Hello Alice! - she looked at the pale woman sitting on the bed - How are you?
Alice didn't say a thing but she smiled. She put out her hand to ask for the cup. Isla gave her the potion first. Then turnes to the man on the next bed.
- Good Evening Frank! - she smiled and gave him the other cup - He nodded with a subtle smile.
Another healer came in.
- William, I wanted to talk to you! - she walked up to him. The man came closer to her and took of his glasses while closed the folder in his right.
- Hello, Isla! What is it about?
- I know that you're specialized for spell damaged patients but I have a girl on the second floor. I would like you to check her - she said. The man looket at her curiously and frowned.
- Magical bugs? - he asked - What's her problem?
- It's the girl with coenonympha febris.
- What?! - he looked at her shocked.
- Did you not hear about it? - she got surprised - She arrived almost two month ago. The 27th of April - the woman continued. William just scrached the back of his balding head.
- I didn't hear about it at all. Let's go - he nodded to the door's direction.
They walked downstairs into the Herbert Spleen ward. Out of the four bed only the closest to the window had a patient on it. The girl was asleep. They walked up to her. Isla walked to her left side and carefully picked up her arm.
- These rashes were dark red when she got here. - the healer whispered - She have more on her hypochondrium. She has fervescene, sometimes really high fever. - Isla walked next to William. - Today she woke up again. She didn't speak at all. She was looking around just like Alice and Frank. Two weeks ago she did the same thing.
- At least you can see signs of recovery. So you think this sickness will be long-term? - he asked.
- I have no idea. The medical records didn't have any information about the healing process's lenght. - she said - Today was the second that she has been awake in the last two month... I just thought, maybe she can heal better around people. She woke up two weeks ago when that woman with the dragon-bite was in the room - Isla explained. - I know that Alice and Frank are not the most talkative - she said before Will could open his mouth - But maybe they can help each other non-verbally.
To this line William looked at her concurred.
- That's not a bad idea! Let's take her up there.
Something clinked constantly. It stopped after a few seconds. Maybe a cup... someone stirred the drink with a spoon. The clock ticked in the background. Somebody sat down... or up maybe. Her eyelids were too heavy. She stayed closed-eyed, lying on the bed. Somebody was talking. She didn't understand it. She heard the voice but the words didn't got to her awareness to understand them. Then that somebody walked out.
She opened her eyes. The brightness blinded her at first. When her eyes finally adjusted the light she looked at the ceiling. She felt something different.
She don't know when she started to feel that tiredness. But she was asleep all the time 'cause of it. Now she felt a tiny bit more awake. At least she didn't feel the need of sleep. She was exhausted and enervated but she was awake. It felt good. She even wanted to sit up. She tried, but as soon as she moved her arms and under her chest started to hurt. She stayed down. Her face showed the pain.
- Hello Emilla! - a woman walked into the room - How are you?
Who is Emilla? The girl looked at confused. She tried to sit up again just to feel the burning pain again. The woman in green robe helped her to sit up.
- How does it hurt? - she asked. The red headed girl looked at her enquiringly. She even raised her eyebrows - Your arms. What is the pain like?
Emilla wanted to look at her arms, so she raised them. It was too quick. It hurt again. Then she thought about the pain... fire.
She slowly lowered her hands and let blue sparks out of her palms. It became flames. The healer got surprised but then turned to look at her face.
- Is it burning? Like fire?
The girl nodded. She got a bit more tired. She looked in front of her without focusing. The healer pointed at her arm and showed her hand. Does she wants to hold my arm? she thought. She nodded once. The touch was firstly burning then it stopped.
It was a bit itchy... The healer looked at her again
- Now?
She showed ants.
- Ants? - Isla got confused. Emilla acted as if she was going to scrach them. - Itching? Oh! That is good - she nodded and pulled out a rolled bandage. She then walked to the closet next to the door and picked up a few bottles along with a bowl. She sat back and put the bandage into the bowl. She poured a bit of a yellow-orange potion on her right arm and rubbed it into her skin. With a glance she asked if it was better. Emilla nodded. She then poured the potion from two bottles into the bowl on the bandage. She wrapped it around her arms then she helped her to stand up. She wrapped her skin under her ribs, where the rash was visible. As she sat back the pain and the itching was gone. Two man walked into the room. One of them was familiar to the girl. He was next to her bed when she was in the other room. He was balding, taller, had grey hair and iron glasses.
The other had longer black hair and a crocked nose. He was wearing a black robe. The face was oddly familiar.
The lime-green and the black robed men walkes up to the woman next to her. They started to talk. She wasn't listening anymore, they walked out of the door. In front of her, on the other side of the room, a woman was sitting in the bed. She was looking at her. She tilted her head and the girl did the same.
- So she doesn't talk? - Snape was walking back and forth on the hallway in front of ward 49.
- Yes, but she found other ways to communicate - Isla said - she projected out things - she spluttered as the professor and her collegue looked at her confused. The professor calmed down but Will just got more confused. She wanted to explain it somehow but she didn't know what to say. Instead she just shook her head and waved to the men to follow her.
As they walked into the room Alice was sitting on Emilla's bed. The girl was projecting out a little bird. The bird was flying around and even sat on Alice's shoulder. It flew to those who just walked back into the ward. The bird sat on Severus Snape's shoulder. Then it vanished. The red haired witch was watching him with a curious glare. Then Alice held Emilla's hand and when the girl looked at the woman she started to concentrate. As she did blue sparks flew into the air and showed a face. Brown haired little boy, around nine years old. He had sad eyes. Emilla was looking at the face and opened her mouth. She was gawping for a few seconds until she finally said a name.
- Neville.
Alice watched the face as it turned into thin air. She gripped the girl's hand stronger for a second then walked back to her bed and sat down. Severus heard her voice and thought that he might have gotten hallucinations.
Emilla walked closer to the healers and Snape. She stopped in front of the professor and watched his face. He crouched down so they could be eye-to-eye level. She didn't say a thing. She was watching him. Then she raise her hands and projected a drawing. Snape remembered that picture. Emilla showed it to her after a few weeks of living with him. It was the drawing she drew when they first met. He smiled.
- Dad - she said. Snape looked back at her. He knew he wasn't dreaming or hallucinating now.
- Hi - he said and waved. The girl hugged him. A few tears ran down on Severus Snape's cheeks.
