With the assistance of Severus Snape, Fred and George, and a kind older Ravenclaw student Evelynn lived through the first day of Hogwarts without missing a class. On Charms, they learnt the levitation spell, on Flying class they started with broom maintenance. On that class Flora Carrow from Slytherin earned ten points. Jess was disappointed by the fact that she can not fly yet. In the afternoon Evelynn went up to the library to read a chapter about Wingardium Leviosa before practicing it in the evening. On Herbology she earned fifteen points for knowing about Devil's Snare and how to deal with it. They got homework from all the three lessons, so she went back to the library right after classes.
First homework: they had to write about the Devil's Snare and all the students had to choose another magical plant to read and write about. Jess chose mandrakes but she haven't started to write about it yet.
Second homework: They had to learn Wingardium Leviosa. It was more practicing than reading.
Last but not least: they had to look after the first three broom brands and learn how they started to make brooms.
In the library students came in, sat down or just picked out a few books and walked out. Either to class or back to their common room. Jessica met up with some of her friends she knew before Hogwarts. When Lynn told her about homework and studying she quickly responded.
- We have at least two days before the first assignment is due. And this is the first day! We can practice tomorrow.
As the time passed she finished her Flying assignment. Done...why was this so boring? she thought. That was a first... she was always happy to learn about magic and so but she never cared for flying or quidditch. Unlike her, almost everyone talked like quidditch was the most important. Jess and Michael were both upset due to the fact that they couldn't apply to the quidditch team until second year. Michael was always arguing with her new best friend about which team is better, Chudley Cannons or Tornados. As she packed away her done homework and pulled out her own copy of the Herbology book. As she read threw she found a chapter on Puffapod, which is known as a magical plant that produces large pink seedpods full of shining beans, which instantly blooms when they come into contact with any solid object. As they had to choose something next to the Devil Snare, she chose this one. Another hour later she listed the last potions to use any parts of Puffapod. As she carefully put away this homework to her bag, she stood up and quietly said goodbye to Madam Pince, who already looked at her very fiercely. She got scolded by her at least two times, because: a) she was turning pages too loudly, and b) she was breathing too loudly. After walking downstairs and turning to the wrong direction she finally met with someone.
- What are you doing here? - Percy Weasley asked her. He looked at her as if she was doing something bad.
- I... got a bit lost - she laughed - could you help me? I can't find the Hufflepuff common room... - Evelynn hoped that he wouldn't be mad at her just because of the bookshop accidents. Percy nodded strictly. He walked her a bit back where she came from and turned to the right direction this time. The witch smiled at him.
- Thank you! - she waved as Percy said a quick goodbye and turned away. She shrugged her shoulders and walked into the Hufflepuff common room. Samantha was sitting on the couch talking to her classmates. In a corner at a table Jess waved at her to go there. As she walked up Jess stood up from the table.
- Where were you?! - she looked at her curiously - It's almost eight, I haven't seen you since Herbology.
- I was in the library - she said. Jess and her friends looked at her with a confused expression - I wrote the assignment for Herbology, and finished the one for Flying class. I started that after lunch. And I read a little about the levitation spell and practiced the movements - as she explained she showed the perfect swish and flick. The blonde witch shook her head.
- You should relax a bit. It was just the first day! We have plenty of time to learn! - she pulled her to the round table and sat her down - Come on! Play with us! - she sat next to her.
Evelynn smiled at the three other girl at the table shyly. She felt a little akward. She didn't want to look like a know-it-all, she just wanted to be loyal to the house she was in, trustworthy, loyal and hardworking...
-Hi! I'm Evelynn Prince - she introduced herself.
-Hey! I'm Olivia Thompson. But please call me Via - she looked desperate - By the way! What should we call you, Evelynn?
- Evelynn is fine too, but you can call me Lynn - she smiled thankfully. Then Jess turned to her.
- This is Emma, she's on our year - Lynn and Emma smiled at each other - That is Grace, her sister. She's on her second year, with Via - she smiled. Grace and Emma had similar facial characters, but Grace had bright blue eyes and a bit darker hair. Evelynn grinned.
- Nice! I can't even forget your name! - she laughed - My middle name is Grace - she explained after she got confused glazes.
They played exploding snap. Evelynn played a few rounds and talked with them. And then played a few more. Then they ate Bertie Bott's every flavoured beans. Then she realized that it's half past nine. Her eyes grew huge from the surprise.
- What is it? - Via looked at her and turned to the direction Evelynn was looking just to see the clock on the wall. - WHAT! Oh, noo! - she screamed. - I have to practice quidditch at half past seven! - she got up and took her stuff - Sorry guys, I have to go! Good night! - she ran up to the dorm room.
- I go to sleep too - Evelynn said as she stood up. Jess tried to convince her to stay a bit more but she failed - Sorry! This was great, by the way. Bye girls! - she waved and walked into the dormitory. She pulled out her assignments from her bag and put it in the drawer. Then picked out the Transfiguration book and placed it in her bag with the History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot.
