After the windy september ended, the october stepped in with the indian summer. The first years got more busy, and now they got mid-term exams as homework. Two for Charms (both one page), one for Transfiguration (three pages), one for potions (four pages at least), one for DADA (two pages) and two shorter for Herbology (one page).
In october they got the autumn break with Halloween in it. It was a ten day long break. Jess and Emma was already planning the whole break with no studying at all, but Evelynn couldn't figure out how would they do that, 'cause they didn't start any of the assignments. Jessica didn't talk to her since the first potion class. She had no idea why, but stopped asking anything after a week of trying. Emma sided with Jess so she was ignoring her. To be honest, she was happier like this. George and Fred became good friends with her when she got detention for sneeking out of the common room at night. She met with Peeves and the poltergeist got Filch there in a second. She wanted to find the kitchen for some night snacks. Filch took her to professor Sprout and she gave her detention with the twins. They got in trouble for stealing a few leaping toadstool and make them jump on Mrs. Norris and professor McGonagall.
Their dentention was to clean up after one of Peeves's prank, which had a lot of paint and glue in it. They could not use any sort of magic. They had a pretty good time until Filch told the professor that they are happy in detention. Then Snape took Fred (he thought it was George), Filch took George and she stayed to clean in professor Binns's classroom.
They showed her the kitchen which had a ton of kind and quickly working house-elves. She got a ton of food there easily.
Snape sent her a few letters to ask about her time. They didn't want to talk in the school, she didn't want any hate from that, such as being a favourite to anyone because of being Snape's daughter.
A week before the autumn break Katie and her were caught up in the homework-hurricane. At Sunday evening they were reading in the library.
Katie was spinning a pencil in her hand, Evelynn was biting her's.
- Did you find anything usable? - she asked slowly, turning pages in the book called Magic between the 13th and the 15th century. - Kay! Are you here?
- Hm? - the girl looked up from the History of Magic. Then she shook her head as she processed what the question was. - Oh! Erm... Nope - she quickly ran trough the paragraph again - nothing about the histeria . I already told you the story of Wendelin the Weird, but I have nothing else... Maybe... - Katie started - we should jump to the conclusions. I mean we have a whole page of information about the witch-hunting, we can write the conclusions and then the begining of the essay.
Evelynn nodded and picked up her quill. As they slowly finnished their homework-exam for Binns, Madam Pince aproached them.
- The library is closing. Go back to your common rooms - she was talking quietly but it wasn't whispering.
The first years picked up their books and homeworks and left. They wanted to go somewhere else to learn a bit more but then...
- It's nearly 8 o'clock!
- What?
- Yes! Lynn, tommorrow at 6?
- In the Great Hall or in the library?
- Great Hall! We need breakfast.
- Alright, then library.
- Okayy.
The two got to the stairs and waved goodbye. Evelynn got downstairs quickly and got into the common room.
A lot of students were playing, listening to music or just talking. Jess and their group looked at her with anger. She didn't care. She walked up to her dormitory and went straight to sleep.
The morning came early with the golden sunshine. It was hard, but Evelynn got up and took her bag to leave.
Just when she walked up to the door of the common room a familiar voice stopped her.
- Morning! - Sarah came right next to her in yellow and black robes, carrying a broom - Why are you up so early?
- I wanted to meet up with.... Katie to study - she said, letting out a yawn. But first we eat something... at least...
- You guys are two determined little nerd - laughed Sarah. I have to go, we have quidditch practice. Bye!
Evelynn smiled and sat down to butter some toast. Katie sat next to her.
- H...hi! - she yawned.
They ate in silence as they slowly woke up. Then sat down in the courtyard to write the potions homework.
Four pages... I don't know this man.... I hate this teacher...
- What if I write the first two pages - Katie suggested somekind of a sneaky plan - and... you write the last two. So we have everything and can be done under 3 hours.
Evelynn smiled at her.
- I mean... it isn't cheating - she said to Katie - we are doing our assignments, aren't we?
The two grinned then pulled out the books they needed.
- Okayy... I'll write about healing potions then cure for boils. Listing every ingredient bla bla bla... - the gryffindor student started.
- Alright, then I write about the bezoar and poisons. I can write Golpalott's third law in it...
- Let's do it!
Surprisingly two and a half hours later they were completely done, rewriting each others paragraphs for themself. They had two more homeworks to be done, one for Herbology one for DADA. The others were now finished. They walked a bit around then went to charms.
At the end of the lesson they gave their homeworks in, much to the professor's surprise.
- Already?! I waited these after the break!
After a windy flying lesson, Evelynn got to eat some lunch. She talked with Rachel, a hufflepuff on her year. They didn't really meet before, because she was running after Cho Chang. They have known each other since they were little, but Cho was always with Marietta and sometimes with Jess. As they talked she asked her to learn with Kay and her before Herbology. She said yes happily.
The trio went to the library and jumped into the Herbology assignment. It was way easier then the one for Potions. They could even talk through the writing.
- I'm telling you - Katie said in a low voice - Snape is the worst of the teachers.
- I'm not sure...
- Lynn! How can you still guard that... that... - Katie interrupted her silently.
- That awfully mean, greasy haired huge bat? - she asked giggling. Rachel laughed while Katie nodded enthusiasticly in aggreement. Ms. Pince's caugh got them go back whispering.
- I meant like... he knows potions well and the descriptions on the board are always more precise then the book - she reasoned - Like bring up Binns. Can you be awake on his lesson more then five minutes?
That was the ultimate ace in her hand. All the three of them slept in at least twice. Later on they continued to think about which teacher is the worst and which is the best.
(From worst to best: Binns, Snape, Beck (Dada had no practical task in first year, it was boring), Hooch, Sprout, McGonagall)
After a lot of talking and way less studying Katie had to go to Transfiguration. The two got into the DADA project. (The Herbology somehow got done, even with talking.) They couldn't finish it before running to the Greenhouse, but at least they started it.
After that Rachel and Evelynn were the last two to get out of the class. They gave their homeworks in, and Sprout reacted almost the same way as Flitwick did. She was a bit more concerned though.
- I hope you don't give in some what of a slap-dash work!
The duo assured her, that it is not the case and left. Katie was already waiting for them.
- Lake?
- Sure! Wanna come?
- .... what? - Rachel got confused. The others laughed. Then Katie started again.
- Do you want to sit down at the lake?
- Oooh! Yeah!
After a break they slowly finished their last assignment and promised Rachel that they help her with those that she hasn't done yet (she still needed the potions and the transfigurations).
The three went to get dinner and got back to their common room. Evelynn started to help out Rachel, who quickly got into the other homeworks she needed. Luckily they only got practicing as homework from charms this day.
The next days felt like a hamsterwheel for Evelynn. Morning, eating, classes, learning, eating, classes, eating, learning, sleeping. And repeat. And again. She slept in on History again, she got punched by a venomus tentacula on Herbology, that was on a healing process and went everywhere with professor Sprout. On transfiguration the task were becoming harder and harder. After the match they got a wooden spoon (to silver fork), then backwards, then they got needle to a fork and back. McGonagall gave them a questioning look after they gave their homework-exams in, but she said nothing about it.
Snape sent her a letter about talking on Friday before the break, so she had the chance to bring up Katie's invitation to him in person.
On Friday the first years were packing their stuff up to go home for 8 days. They had another two after that, but that two had the huge Halloween feast in it, so they had to be here, in the school. Evelynn, Katie and Rachel played exploding snap for a while. After 4 pm Evelynn got up to go to Snape's classroom. She said an awful excuse to go (I left my notebook in the library!)and left without waiting for her friends reaction. She walked in and waited for him to put down the newspaper he was reading.
- Hello! - he said it from behind the paper - How was school?
- ...really? - she let out a sigh, asked annoyed as Snape laughed up.
- I had to! Sorry! - he said, and locked the door. That was Evelynn's sign. She grinned in concetration and she was red-headed, unfreckled again. Snape turned to her - I read your exam. - he put down the Daily Prophet, as he saw her again as Emilla he looked surprise, then shook it off - Not bad. Did you work together? With Bell from Gryffindor?
- Yea, kinda.... Can I have a question? - she asked in her soft "please" voice.
He stood up and walked closer slowly with a serious look, just like on classes.
- Well?
- Can I... no. A friend of mine invited me for the autumn break. Can I go? - she smiled as the best kid in the world.
Snape smiled, but got back to the serious expression.
- It... depends - he pulled out his chair and sat down in front of the desk. Emilla looked at him confused.
- It depends on... what? - she looked up at him questioningly.
- It depends on the fact that you have a ton of homework for the break - he said with an evil grinn.
- I have done every mid-term exam we got! - she said - With Katie!
Snape laughed at her anxiousness. This was the Snape she knew... Where did he go on potion classes?
- You drama queen... I want to write a letter to the parents, asking them if it is really okay for you to go. Then we can talk about it - he sat back to his desk and started tp write the letter.
- Oh! By the way, they won't know that I'm your father - he quickly looked up - I'll sign it as Mr. Prince, got it?
- Sure!
- Okay, after I get an answer I'll send you an owl, okay?
- Yepp! - she nodded and waved.
She turned around to go to the door and her hair slowly went back to dark brown and her freckles came back.
The door shutted after her with a thud and Severus Snape could hear her run back to her common room.
