The winter break from christmas eve was amazing in Emilla's eyes. She had the chance to be Emilla outside and she played with few of her old friends from the orphanage. It came as a surprise on the third day after the holiday. She was watching Snape as he brewed pepper-up potion for Madam Pomfrey. She even helped at the tasks which didn't need magic. It was interesting because she had read the  recipe of the potion but Snape did it in another way. Instead of chopping up the mint leaf he just squished it a bit and put it into the cauldron in whole. He wasn't leaving it for ten minutes, he left it for twenty, etc... After a while somebody knocked on the door. Severus walked out to open the door and closed the kitchen door. This was usual. The town had lots of muggles living in it. Any time they were using magic, they either used the kitchen or the backyard garden.
- Morning! - Emilla heard Snape's voice - Come in please.
People came in and walked towards the living room.
The witch quickly changed from red-headed to dark brown haired and freckled. The man walked in and shook his head.
- Change back - he whispered. She looked at him in confusion - It's a surprise
She changed back still not understanding a thing. She walked into the living room behind Severus and she almost jumped from the happiness.
- Lettyyyy! - she screamed and ran to hug the girl in the room. Snape almost dropped the teapot he held.
- Milaaa! - the other shouted excitedly.
The two said hi to each other with an extremely long handshake, then started to chat. They were talking so fast, the adults couldn't even follow them. Then the woman who came with Violet started to talk.
- Sorry girls but can we continue this on the ice?
- Nooo wayyy! - Emilla looked at her dad. He nodded. - But then you'll have to come on the ice too!
- We'll see...
Let's say not a lot of Hogwarts student can see Severus Snape ice-skating but a muggle family saw his struggles along with the random strangers around them. Snape slowly but surely learnt how to ice-skate. He fell over a ton of times which made the girls laugh out loud.
Violet was a roommate of Emilla after two years spent alone from her age. Letty's biological parents died in a train-accident. Letty wasn't with them and her grandparents weren't alive to adopt her. She was adopted a year before Mila. They started to talk about school and Emilla tried her best not to talk about anything magical. It was really hard, but she did it. All the professors were just teachers, history was easy to talk about - cause she was always sleeping on those classes (with opened or closed eyes). Potions became chemistry, transfiguration became literature, charms changed into english language, flying turned into PE and herbology was nature and biology. One time she accidently said the poltergeist but she saved it. The girl said that it's the nickname of the awful caretaker Mr. Filch.
Violet and her talked about their homes and families. Violet has just got a little sister in the last few month so it was quiet a big deal right now.
In the break they met with more of her friends from the orphanage. When Mrs. Cewers took the children outside they walked out to meet up with them.
From Snape Emilla got a magical snowglobe, which acted like the Great Hall's ceiling. It showed the real whether outside. It had a black cat in the middle playing with either a blue butterfly or a little blue bird, depending on the time of the year. She had some muggle money from the time in the orphanage so she bought Snape a notebook.
After a lot of great food and gift and time the New Year came and Snape and Emilla had to go back to Hogwarts. The young witch was both excited and a bit sad.
A) She was excited to meet with her friends, to use magic again and to learn more duelling.
B) She was sad to leave the long sleeps and nightly boardgames, and all the times she met up with her old friends.
When she told this to Severus - who was wearing an ugly christmasy jumper - he answered like this.
- It's okay to be sad - he looked at her above a cauldron of skele-gro (a potion to grow back bones if someone loses them - (Emilla couldn't even think of a situation when this potion can be useful).
- It's okay? - she asked back.
- Yes! Because it means: Secretly A Dinosaur.
- Dad?
- Yes?
- You shouldn't do that ever again...
Emilla smiled but the joke was sooo terrible, it hurt. To be honest, she would have love to see the Weasley twins - or basically any student's - reaction to Severus Snape telling a dad-joke. Sadly for her this was more usual then other would think.
Snape laughed and put out his hands like a T-Rex.
- Rawr... - he used his teaching voice, which made it sound more absurd and hilarious.
- Whyyyyy?! - the girl cried out loud.
