"Mum!" You screamed at the top of your lungs, which started to crack under the pressure.
The demonic beast grinned while your mothers blood dripped from its razor sharp teeth, you watched as it devoured your mother. How could one of the most powerful women be beaten, she was the feared evil queen, she had earned that title but yet she was dying in front of your eyes.
"Run my love, save yourself." she managed through the pain, she flicked her wrist creating a portal. The creature followed the flow of magic its red eyes focused on its new target, a mere frightened ten year old girl. With it's new prey in sight he tore your mother apart like a wild animal which caused a massive ripple of magic to flow, the massive blast caused you to be thrown through the portal and your terrified body slammed against a tree, knocking you out cold.
With a scream you bolted upright, tears streaming down your face. "Ugh" you groaned, the same bloody memory, your mothers death had been on your mind constantly lately and followed you into your sleep. You were now eighteen years old, it had been eight years and you still missed her greatly but also still had no answers to how and why she died. Your tired eyes, looked out the window of the orphanage in a small village which your mother had sent you to, the sun was rising which meant you had to live another miserable day. You hadn't made a home here and hated every minute, to make things worst the orphanage would kick you out soon as you were now an adult but they still took advantage of you making you do chores and 'other things'.
"Get up Y/n!" a voice called while planting several loud thuds on your door. You sighed letting your body sink further into the bed sheets wishing you could disappear. "Don't make me come in there or there will be consequences" he bellowed, "Coming." I quickly replied, not wanting the consequences which happened too often. The man who ran the orphanage was a creep who shouldn't be around kids, I shuddered remembering the things he did the places he touched me.
I quickly crawled out of bed and threw on some clothes and washed my face, I walked down to the kitchen where I started to make breakfast for all the other unfortunate kids. "Morning!" he said placing a hand round my waist and slowly lowering it closer to my lower back. "I have a busy day to day I need to grab a few things in town" I replied calmly as I knew he would punish me if I angered him, I quickly moved around the room making myself look busy but I was simply trying to create as much distance as I could. He simply grunted in response and left the room, I let the air leave my lungs knowing I was alone. I made sure no one was around and used my magic to complete my tasks, no knew I had magic as it would only create more problems. I didn't use my magic against him as I needed him which I hated to admit but he put a roof over my head and fed me. Being here in this house this town was making me cold and dead in side, I just needed the resources and plan to escape.
I had finished the food and sat it all down on the table for the kids, there where eight of us total ranging from all ages but all were under ten except me which I was thankful for as I didn't think he would touch any of them until they were much older. I would carry the burden as long as they were safe. As they ate I continued other chores so that I could get into town as soon as possible.
It was late morning when I began the journey into town it was only a ten minute walk but I liked the fresh air and took my time, I gathered all the food and items I needed for the orphanage and made my way to my favourite place, the bookshop. I smiled as I entered "anything new?", "Yes and no. There a new copy of Snow White which I thought you'd be interested in" the owner replied, she was a nice lady who was always happy to see me. I flicked through the pages going to the end to have a look to see how the story ended, but it was the same as others and didn't mention anything new about my mother. "What's this?" I asked reading the imprint on the back cover, 'S.G.E'. "There's a myth that a school for good and evil teaches students to become heroes and villain and create their own fairytales eventually. Hense the initials, it stands for 'The School for Good and Evil.'" she explained, my eyes widened it must be real. "If only I could attend but alas I am too old and they wouldn't want me" I said my tone sad. "Careful what you which for" she responded kindly, "oh but I wish with all my heart" I whispered to myself. With that I smiled in goodbye and left the shop making my way back to my cage of a home.
The whole evening I thought about nothing except for the school for good and evil, it would be the perfect escape but what school would I go to. I'm not good or pure of heart but I wouldn't consider myself purely evil, saying that I would easily watch as the life drained my hideous excuse of a carer. In my carelessness and lack of concentration I accidentally dropped a plate filled with food which smashed everywhere, "You foolish child!" he bellowed making his way over to me and placing a forceful slap against my face, the taste of blood filled my mouth. I looked him in the eyes my body filling rage, it wasn't the first time he had done this nor would it be the last but part of me wanted to fight back. My hands twitched my body ached to use my magic and rip his heart out of its chest and watch it crumble to ash.
"Clean it up!" he shouted again "you can go without tonight". I sighed as I did what I was told and cleaned the broken shards from the floor and scrubbing the food of the floor, by the time I was finished everyone had gone. I wondered if I had a new life would I still let people walk all over me or would I hold my ground and not take shit from anyone.
I heard the heavy footsteps coming down the stairs knowing my punishment would come, my face went pale as my eyes wondered over to the back door. I quickly slipped out trying to avoid my cruel fate, this would only make it worse tomorrow but that was future problem. The night was dark but it was red unlike what I had ever seen before, weirdly it gave my peace of mind and I found it comforting. I quickly ran off into the woods away from the rage that would be looking for me. Once the orphanage was a safe distance away I slowed my pace and sat down against a fallen tree, slowly catching my breath. I closed my eyes listening to my surroundings, the wind whistled and animals talked, I was finally at peace. That's when my body welcomed sleep ignoring the cold and the boned creature picking me up of the dirty floor.
