The black northern hawk owl flew off Olivia's window ledge with the carefully composed letters.
The first was addressed to Dumbledore- alerting him she will be coming by floo at 8pm today for a meeting and if that wouldn't work he should contact her.
Better to ask forgiveness than permission
Olivia thought. The second was for McGonagall (Minnie as Olivia called her) alerting her to Olivia's new position and subtly asking for advice on anything about the reclusive Potions Master that would help make her job easier.
The last of course was for the man himself- Severus Tobias Snape.
She laughed inside at her two word response:
I accept.
No hello, no goodbye, not even a good day- just those two words without her name.
He should know her handwriting by now and unless he regularly goes around offering things to people, being the clever man he is, it would be obvious the owl was from her.
Olivia made her way down the rickety, narrow steps leading from her chambers to the middle level of the house (the shop was on the ground floor).
Reaching the second floor landing, she walked along the gloomy hallway to her employer's office. It was Sunday so Webbs and sons closed early today at 4pm. Mr Webb sat at his desk like he usually did- scribbling on parchment and counting endless mounds of money.
That reminds her- she needs to go to Gringotts Wizarding Bank to deposit her new hawl.
"What is it!?" He snapped, not even looking up.
Olivia tensed at the door, she was defiantly not going to miss this place.
"Oh it's you" he said looking up finally, taking her in slowly.
He licked his lips suggestively- clever, cold eyes stopping at her breasts. It spurred her to get to her point quickly.
"I am handing in my notice- not that working here requires it" she said politely.
"I just thought you should know".Webbs and sons worked at such a fast pace there was a constant impression contingencies were in place for leaving at the drop of a hat if things went south. Whenever Olivia saw the stout, cunning man he was shuffling about with papers- fast and urgently as if he was up to no good and owed a debt for his life.
"How saddening to see you go, and just when we began to see you as family" .
She couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic.
Your son sure as hell doesn't see me as family she thought darkly.
"I appreciate everything you have done for me" she said instead.
She really wanted to get out of this stuffy, sour smelling room lined with filing cabinets and shelves upon shelves of decapitated dried up house elf heads, skulls from various magical creatures and gross pickled animals floating in jars. It was turning her stomach.
"How soon will you be leaving us?".
"Early tomorrow morning most likely if not tonight. Would I be required to train my replacement?".
"I have a niece I can bring over who's worked with us before- she knows the drill. Not as pretty as you mind but beauty like yours is a rarity" his eyes ran over her as his mind wandered off somewhere.
Coming back to himself- he spoke in a voice devoid of emotion.
"See to it your room is clean and cleared of your things before you leave".
