"Padfoots in Love" said James in wonder.

"Of course he is, she's stunning" Said Lily matter of factly.
"I'm interested in her and would have a go if she swung that way".

"Lily flower!" James said shocked.
"My sweet cherub! You must tell me these things so we can enjoy them together. How could you withhold such a nugget! I demand the details- quick, tell me, am I in the room and if so what am I doing?" He rested his chin on top of clasped hands as if eagerly awaiting a story.

Lily laughed as Sirius shook his head grinning, breaking into laughter when James broke his composed face and joined in himself.

They all relaxed at the table and prepared to eat.

"I made a fool of myself" Sirius said softly, making the others turn to look at him.
"The attraction was instant, it was like being hit over the head with a bulger. I knew straight away she was different and I shouldn't screw it up by slipping into my usual patterns" he swiped his hand over his face.
"I ended up acting like you back at school" he groaned- looking at James.

"Hey! I take offense to that- it was over enthusiastic love for my darling Lily flower and a harmless show of peacocking. I had to show my beauty what I had to offer- nothing wrong with that!".

"Didn't work though did it" Lily said with a soft smile. A warm look filled her eyes as she glanced back at James.
"Not until you toned it down" she took his hand and kissed the top gently- getting a soft peck on her hand in return.

"I practically cursed myself in the foot!" Sirius shook his head, pouring himself more fire whisky.

"What do you mean? You seemed fine to me" said Lily, going back to eating her food after James released her hand.

Sirius groaned.

"I lost my charm!, it was like I was a prepubescent boy shooting his first shot. I didn't show her I was a grown man" he cringed again and pushed away from the table.
"I offered to give her a massage!".

The others burst out in laughter. Eventually Sirius joined them, shaking his head at his absurd behavior.

"You idiot" James laughed.

"You're one to talk! the cheesy lines I've heard come out your mouth over the years to get some time alone with this one- don't get me started Prongs. I thought getting engaged would stop the flower related endearments- oh Merlin was I wrong".

"Okay okay fair enough" James said laughing, putting his hands up.

"Listen" said Lily gently.
"It's the first time you've felt strongly about someone to the point you think it's love- of course you were all over the place" she reached out and rubbed the top of his hand consolingly.
"It must have been stressful second guessing yourself and not knowing how to play it- it explains why you diverted to Hogwarts Sirius- that is when you were at the height of your success at getting girls was it not?".

"I didn't peak at Hogwarts Lils- never underestimate this" he ran his hand through his silky raven hair winking- making the others laugh.
"I'm still getting girls, that's not the problem, I just hope she doesn't think I'm a prat".

"When it hits- it hits hard- I remember it well" James said looking over at Lily with warm eyes.

"I'm sure she saw past any mistakes you made, she seems extremely sharp" said Lily.

"I hope so" said Sirius, swirling his drink in thought.

They all began to eat in silence, each in their own thoughts.
